“Thank you US Attorney Williams for recognizing the fact that local patrol officers made this stop, seizure and arrest. 21 Kilograms of co***ne that won’t make it onto US streets.”

“Traveling from Los Angeles to Miami in a car with 21 Kilos takes a lot of guts. No telling how many times these two and others have made similar trips with drugs or human cargo. These guys passed through hundreds of jurisdictions. We could say it’s not our problem but when you came through Calera you made it our problem.”

“Too often when cases go federal the officers in the field who did the work, took the risk and made the case are ignored or forgotten. I was a fed for 32 years and I have a good understanding of the fact that federal law enforcement needs and depends on local law enforcement a great deal.”

“This case was made solely due to proactive policing. Sadly, many cities around our country and some in Alabama have gotten away from proactive policing to the detriment of the citizens we are supposed to protect.” (Chief Hyche)

Go against the grain and read and share a positive post today!

“Last night, I received a text from a citizen with a picture of one of our officers helping a homeless man get something to eat.”

“When I post a chase or a significant arrest, it can get thousands or even millions of views.”

“Posts like this one typically get very few.”

“One reason some citizens have a negative view of police is that all they ever see are negative stories.”

“The news is going to publish stories that get the most views. The problem is that society wants to be entertained or shocked, not take the time to read a story about an officer with a heart for service taking time out of his day to help a fellow human being.”

“This isn’t a planned or staged picture like we see so often. This is a good man, Officer Smitherman, helping another human being, and another good man recognizing the situation and sending me a picture.”

“Race and economic status divide us as a country when we allow them to.”

“None of that is a factor in this story.” (Chief Hyche)

Matthew 25:40 — “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Jesus means everyone when He says brothers and sisters of mine.)
