4/4/26 — Engine 22 was dispatched to a report of possible live ammunition at 438 Grant Street, Plaza Garcia. Upon arrival, crews confirmed the presence of ammunition, prompting an evacuation of the area and activation of the Imperial County Bomb Squad. The initial discovery consisted of seven rounds found by a renter while moving vehicles. The Bomb Squad safely X-rayed the ammunition and determined it was old and stable for disposal.
After clearing the scene, Engine 22 was dispatched back when additional ammunition was discovered in a neighboring lot. The Bomb Squad returned and recovered over 100 additional rounds, which were safely handled and prepared for proper disposal. The origin and length of time the ammunition had been there remain unknown. No injuries were reported.
Thank you to Captain Segura, the Imperial County Bomb Squad Tech, for helping us handle this incident safely.
