Minimum Training & Experience:
Considerable experience in SC law enforcement, victim advocate services, or human services, with administrative and program development background. Bachelor’s degree preferred. The equivalent combination of education, training and related work experience may be considered.
**A valid SC driver’s license is required.**
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Considerable knowledge of criminal justice system.
• Considerable knowledge of human services delivery system.
• Considerable knowledge of the functions and objectives of state, county, and federal victims advocate organizations.
• Thorough knowledge of federal, state, county and city laws and ordinances which pertain to victim’s rights.
• Thorough knowledge of modern office practices, methods and techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to advise, instruct, and train volunteers.
• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.
• Ability to personally demonstrate appropriate customer service skills.
Specific Duties:
• Identifies the needs of victims that request service of the Calhoun Falls Police Department; ensures their immediate safety, assists them through the court procedures.
• Trains Police Department personnel and volunteers to assist in the advocacy program.
• Assists in planning and executing interagency meetings with other victim advocates and assistance groups to discuss victim’s rights, needs and services available in order that the victim may be wholly served.
• Advises victims of violent crimes of progress of case, maintains contact with victims and/or family members throughout the court process.
• Counsels’ victims; provides support; refers victims to crisis counseling in cases of physical, social and/or psychological injuries or anxieties; develops and presents educational programs concerning victim’s rights, provides resources related to adult and child victimization, and methods to reduce the risk of victimization.
• Provides applications and information to victims concerning S.C. Crime Victims Compensation; explains purpose, procedures, and policies; assists in completion of forms.
• Assists in case follow-up in which victim has applied for compensation.
• Prepares, reviews, types, files and/or distributes confidential records and reports, including victim sheets, client files, intake sheets, logs, correspondence, victim impact statements, statement of loss, victim compensation applications, monthly reports, annual budget reports, medical records, monthly ledger sheets, etc.
• Daily Time and Activity Sheet completion.
• Performs all other duties as may be required to meet organizational needs.
