Fox 103.5 FM...Local officials are hitting the pause button on data center development in Gordon County, putting to rest recent chatter & rumors about a tech boom. The Gordon County Board of Commissioners and the Calhoun City Council have put in place a broad moratorium, halting all new data center applications until January 29th of next year. This decision follows interest from an Atlanta developer in a 57-acre site off the Highway 53 Spur, which led to local speculation about the potential for up to six data centers in the area. However, officials clarify that no formal applications have been submitted, and only the Highway 53 Spur site has attracted any initial interest. City Administrator Paul Worley mentioned that during this multi-month pause, leaders will take the opportunity to revise zoning laws, emphasizing strict residential buffers and significant limits on water and power usage.
