Calhoun Fire Department responded to a large wildland fire yesterday. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Clinton Fire Department, Windsor Fire Department, and the Missouri Department of Conservation for their assistance and support on this incident.

At this time, we are still working to determine the total number of acres burned.

With high wind warnings in effect over the next couple of days, we urge everyone to use extreme caution with any outdoor burning. Conditions can change rapidly and become dangerous in a very short time.

Thank you to all who helped and to our community for your continued support. Stay safe.

Yesterday evening, Calhoun Fire Department was requested for mutual aid to assist Clinton Fire Department with a working structure fire.

Calhoun FD responded with 9 firefighters and 2 junior firefighters to a two-story residence with heavy smoke showing. Upon arrival, we received our assignments from Clinton’s Incident Command and immediately went to work. Due to interior conditions, crews faced a challenging operation, and it took time to bring the fire under control.

Urich Fire Department was also requested for mutual aid. Situations like this highlight how critical mutual aid partnerships are in ensuring the safety of both firefighters and the communities we serve.

One Calhoun firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Please keep them in your thoughts.

We appreciate the teamwork and dedication shown by all departments involved.

A few years ago, I walked through the doors of Calhoun Fire Department and saw a department doing everything it could with very little. There weren’t many volunteers left. Some of the trucks weren’t even in working order. But what we did have… was heart.

And that heart is the reason we are here today.

Since 2021, Calhoun FD has come a long way. A generous donation from Sam Sloan helped provide the equipment and resources we desperately needed. Because of that support, we now operate two stations, two front-line engines, two tankers, two brush trucks, and reserve apparatus. We are better equipped than we have ever been.

But let me be very clear about something.

Trucks don’t answer calls.

People do.

The men and women of Calhoun FD volunteer their time. They leave dinner tables. They step away from their kids’ ballgames. They get out of warm beds at 2:00 in the morning. They show up in the middle of storms, on holidays, and during the worst days of someone else’s life.

They train when they’re tired.
They respond when they’re needed.
They serve because they care.

They do it without a paycheck. Without recognition. Without expecting anything in return.

They do it because they love this community.

When you hear a siren in Calhoun, that sound is not just equipment rolling out. It’s someone’s spouse. Someone’s parent. Someone’s son or daughter. Someone who chose to put their community ahead of their own comfort.

That is why you can feel safe.

It is not because of shiny trucks.
It is not because of a building.
It is because of heart.

Every volunteer across Henry County deserves appreciation and respect. These departments survive on dues and community support, but they run on people willing to serve.

Sam’s donation helped bring us to where we needed to be. Community support keeps us there. And volunteers are what make it all possible.

If you have heart… if you care about your neighbors… if you want to make a difference that truly matters… there is a place for you here.

Calhoun FD isn’t just a fire department. It’s neighbors helping neighbors. It’s ordinary people doing extraordinary things when the call comes in.

To every volunteer who has ever answered that call — THANK YOU. You are the reason this community can rest a little easier at night.

And to those who have been thinking about stepping up… we’re ready for you.

Tonight Calhoun Fire Department got a little hands-on with some back burn training. Yes, we set things on fire. No, it wasn’t by accident. We’re sharpening our skills and getting ready for wildfire season so when it counts, we’re ahead of the flames instead of chasing them.

Controlled burns now mean fewer uncontrolled surprises later. Big thanks to the crew for putting in the work and smelling like smoke so the community doesn’t have to.

If you see smoke and a bunch of firefighters smiling, don’t panic. It’s just us practicing our “fight fire with fire” strategy like professionals.

A reminder of our Severe Weather Seminar on March 9th, beginning with a meet and greet of our local storm chasers and their vehicles at 6pm!

02/09/2026

Early this afternoon, Calhoun Fire Department responded to what started as a small grass fire.

Despite a fast response, changing winds caused the fire to spread quickly across multiple properties. Thanks to the rapid teamwork and support of our partners, the fire was brought under control.

We are incredibly grateful for the immediate mutual aid response from Windsor Fire, who assisted with a tanker, brush trucks, and a UTV, and Conservation, who provided a dozer that was critical in stopping the fire’s spread. We would also like to thank Dittmer Ditching for stepping in with their dozer and helping our community.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the unsung heroes behind the scenes at Henry County 911. Your calm coordination and support make a difference every day.

This incident is a strong reminder of how quickly conditions can change and how important teamwork is when it matters most. We appreciate everyone who helped keep our community safe.

Early this morning, the Calhoun Fire Department was requested for mutual aid to assist the Clinton Fire Department on a working residential structure fire.

Calhoun responded with one engine and a crew of seven firefighters. The teamwork and coordination between these two departments was outstanding and a great example of interagency cooperation. We look forward to continued training and working alongside Clinton Fire in the future.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family who lost their home and belongings today.
