Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad

Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad TFARS is a volunteer organization providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and rescue services. Our ranks consist of approximately 45 unpaid volunteers.

The Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue Squad (TFARS) was established in 1990 by dedicated volunteers who served our community volunteering with other fire and first aid & rescue squads and joined together to establish TFARS. We have been providing excellence in prehospital care for over three decades. TFARS provides Basic Life Support (BLS) and various forms of rescue services. We currently have 2 BLS U

nits (ambulances), 2 first responder vehicles, 1 off-road rescue vehicle and 1 rescue vehicle. Since its inception, the squad has never charged a patient a single cent for the services we provide. Our annual budget is met entirely through donations and fundraising events. Our ranks also include a vibrant cadet program consisting of young women and men from the ages of 14 to 17.

With the heat index well over 110°F, dehydration and heat exhaustion can set in very quickly. If you must be outdoors, remember to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks. Please check on your friends, neighbors, and pets, especially those without AC! The extreme heat is expected to continue through Saturday.

⚠️🥵 An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for all of SE PA, northern DE, and much of NJ, where dangerous heat will begin Wednesday through Saturday. The watch remains in effect for far southern NJ, barrier islands, and Delmarva.

High temperatures of 95-105° and heat indices of 100-110° are expected each day, hottest Thursday through Friday. This includes area beaches and mountainous areas, which will not offer much relief from this extreme heat event. Plan accordingly if you are traveling for the holiday weekend.

Tewksbury Rescue had a busy Friday afternoon. In addition to running a very successful blood drive, we responded on a mutual aid basis to the Level 1 mass casualty incident (motor vehicle crash) in Lebanon along with numerous area police, fire, rescue, paramedic, county OEM, and air medical services. We are thankful to the more than 40 members of the community who took the time out of their day to come to the blood drive. We are also grateful for our volunteers and the other first responders who dedicate themselves to helping others every day.

Last night TFARS cadet corps and its leadership attended an information session about ARFF (airport rescue and firefighting) at Trenton Mercer Airport. Cadets got a behind-the-scenes tour of the airport's emergency facilities and capabilities. The highlight of the evening: Shooting the water cannon (obviously)! Thank you to Trenton Mercer Airport and Chief Johanssen for your hospitality!

This week was all about education, training, and outreach for TFARS. In addition to our monthly training meeting, four members participated in the Capital Health tactical emergency critical care class. On Friday, five members presented first aid and rescue training for the 7th and 8th graders at OTS. On Saturday, 13 members provided standby emergency support for the Revolutionary Ramble bike ride.
