🚒 CFD Engine 319 Supporting Wildfire Response in Humboldt County

On August 12, 2026, Calistoga Fire Department deployed Engine 319 with a crew of 4 personnel to assist with the MP-18 Fire in Humboldt County. E319 is operating as part of a strike team of engines from Napa and Sonoma counties, working alongside partner agencies to construct fire lines and help contain the fire's spread.

Personnel responding to major incidents like this are prepared for deployments of a minimum of 16 days — long shifts, tough terrain, and demanding conditions, all in support of California's statewide mutual aid system.

Rest assured: even with these four personnel deployed, CFD remains fully staffed every day and ready to respond to emergencies here at home.

We're proud of our crew and grateful for the mutual aid partnerships that let us support communities across the state when they need it most. Stay safe out there, E319! 🔥🧯

🚨 Multi-Agency Active Shooter Training 🚨

Today, the Calistoga Fire Department participated in a multi-jurisdictional active shooter training exercise at Calistoga High School alongside our public safety partners.

These realistic training scenarios are critical to ensuring first responders can work together efficiently under the most challenging circumstances. By practicing communication, coordination, patient care, and unified command in a controlled environment, we strengthen our ability to respond quickly and effectively should a real emergency ever occur. While we hope these skills are never needed, preparation is one of the most important ways we can protect our community.

This exercise would not have been possible without the collaboration and dedication of our partner agencies:
• Calistoga Police Department
• Napa County Fire Department
• CAL FIRE
• AMR
• Napa County Sheriff’s Office
• Napa County Office of Emergency Services (OES)
• St. Helena Police Department
• California Highway Patrol (CHP)

A special thank you to the many community volunteers who gave their time to serve as victims during today’s scenarios. Your participation added a level of realism that made the training even more valuable and helped all responding agencies sharpen their skills.

Working together, training together, and preparing together makes our entire community safer.

🔥 Prescribed Fire Update – Mount Washington | June 22, 2026

This morning, the Calistoga Fire Department, with assistance provided by CAL FIRE/Napa County Fire Department, successfully conducted a prescribed fire operation on Mount Washington. The burn began at approximately 10:00 AM and was completed in roughly 90 minutes, removing hazardous vegetation that poses a significant wildfire spread risk to our community.

Prescribed fire is one of the most effective tools we have to reduce fuel loads and protect Calistoga from the threat of catastrophic wildfire. Today’s operation makes our community measurably safer.

CFD firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day and into the evening to monitor for any flare-ups and ensure the area is fully secured.

Thank you to the fire crews for their professionalism and to our community for your patience and support. 🌲

🔥 PRESCRIBED BURN — MONDAY, JUNE 22

The Calistoga Fire Department will conduct a planned, controlled burn on Mt Washington this Monday, 6/22/26.

Residents and visitors may see and smell smoke in and around town throughout the day. This is a routine, carefully managed operation carried out by local crews to reduce hazardous vegetation and lower wildfire risk in our community.

✅ The burn is planned and supervised

🚫 Please do not call 911 to report it

If you have respiratory sensitivities, you may wish to keep windows closed and limit time outdoors while smoke is present.

🚒 Friday Night Response – Chimney Fire Contained

Friday evening (4/10/26), Calistoga Fire Department crews responded to a residential chimney fire. Thanks to a quick response and coordinated efforts, the fire was contained to the chimney and fully extinguished.

We were assisted on scene by Napa County Fire Department through our mutual aid system—thank you for your support and teamwork.

✅ No injuries were reported
🏡 The residents were able to remain in their home

🔥 Chimney Fire Safety Reminder:
Chimney fires often start due to a buildup of creosote inside the flue. To help prevent them:
• Have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually
• Burn only seasoned (dry) wood - no garbage
• Avoid overloading your fireplace
• Install and maintain smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

If you hear what has been described a sounding like a vacuum to a freight train, loud cracking or popping from your chimney, or notice fire from the top of your chimney, call 911 immediately.

Stay safe, Calistoga!
