California’s first millionaire, Sam Brannan, purchased much of the property for his Hot Springs Resort in 1859. The resort was completed in 1862, and visitors to the Sharpsteen Museum will get a view of the city a

That’s a wrap on three, count ‘em, THREE packed screenings of “Chinese in Napa Valley - The Forgotten Community That Built Wine Country,” ’s fascinating documentary that explores a little-known chapter of our region’s history. Inspired by John McCormick’s carefully researched book, filmmaker Jeff Hamilton has brought many of these stories to life through interviews and photographs. The intense interest in this program has been remarkable (thanks in part to a great story by in the ). We’re grateful to Kaitlyn Scott Moxon of , John McCormick & Jeff Hamilton for their enthusiastic support and partnership. Huge thanks to our members for showing up in record numbers, and a warm welcome to all first time museum visitors! If you act quickly, there may even be a few copies of the book left in our shoppe; it’s a terrific read.

The Napa County Historical Society (NCHS) presents “Chinese in Napa Valley” on Friday, February 20 at the Sharpsteen Museum.
“Chinese in Napa Valley,” directed and produced by Jeff Hamilton, EH LearnMedia, LLC, is a new documentary based on the book by John McCormick, revealing the pivotal yet long-overlooked contributions of Chinese immigrants to Napa County. Through archival images, family stories, and expert insight, it uncovers the labor, resilience and community life that helped shape the valley.

The screening begins at 5:30 PM, with doors opening at 5:00 PM for seating. The film runs approximately 55 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and contributors.

Museum members may recall John McCormick’s Meet the Author lecture discussing his book in 2023. Sharpsteen Board President Dean Enderlin is among the experts featured in the documentary.

PLEASE NOTE: This screening is free. Seating is limited; an advance RSVP is required. Email Media Chair Eden Umble, [email protected] or call 707-280-3636 to reserve your spot.
