OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION REPORT
Case File: “The Great Sky Leak of ’26”

After numerous reports of “wet stuff falling from the sky,” a full investigation was launched.

Findings:
• Radar confirmed suspicious activity overhead
• Puddles appeared without permits
• Cats immediately went on strike
• Lab results: H₂O
• Source: Clouds
• Motive: Gravity

Final determination:
It rained.

Important update from authorities:
The burn ban is still in effect.

A few minutes of rain does not cancel months of dry conditions, low humidity, and high fire danger.

Do not burn.

Do not “just test it.”

Do not assume the ban lifted because your driveway got wet.

Stay dry. Stay smart.

🚒 August 2026 — Month in Review 🚒

August was another busy month for the Callisburg Volunteer Fire Department, with our volunteers responding to 54 calls for service throughout the community.

🌾 0 Grass Fires
🚗 4 MVAs – No Injuries
🚨 7 MVAs – With Injuries
🏠 0 Structure Fires

That brings us to 350 calls for service so far in 2026.

Behind every number is someone who needed help—and volunteers who stopped what they were doing to answer the call. We’re proud to serve Callisburg and grateful for the community that stands behind us.

Our Fish Fry is our main annual fundraiser and an important source of operating revenue that helps keep our trucks rolling, equipment ready, and volunteers equipped to answer calls like these.

The Cooke County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Public Safety Telecommunications Officer.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Public Safety Telecommunications Officers play a critical role in keeping our community and first responders safe. This position is responsible for receiving and prioritizing emergency and administrative calls, operating emergency and non-emergency communication systems, and dispatching critical information to law enforcement, fire, rescue, and other emergency response agencies.

Overnight, Callisburg Fire responded to a major motor vehicle accident on County Road 136 (between FM678 and CR107). On arrival, crews found one patient with serious injuries. The patient was flown to a trauma center.

Cooke County Sheriff’s Office dispatch was notified of the call by iPhone Crash Detection. Most of the time these alerts are false — a phone dropped in a car, a hard bump, a malfunction. Last night was the reason the feature exists. It did exactly what it was designed to do.

A big congratulations to one of our own, Eric Eggen!

Welcome FF/EMT Eric Eggen

Gainesville Fire-Rescue is proud to welcome Firefighter/EMT Eric Eggen to the GFR team.

Eric was born in Sherman and moved to Woodbine in 2020. He began volunteering with Callisburg VFD in 2025, where he quickly discovered his passion for the fire service. He completed the Fire Academy at NCTC in 2025 and earned his EMT-B certification through First Responder Training Solutions in early 2026.

Eric and his wife, Maddison, have one daughter, Aubrie. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and golf.

“I’m looking forward to gaining as much knowledge as possible and growing every day, learning new skills and training to be better for myself, my department, and the community,” FF Eggen said.

Our neighbors on the other side of the county had a fire this afternoon that could have quickly become worse than it was. Good job to all the departments that responded and got this under control.

Our Heavy Brush 116 is currently out of service after suffering a catastrophic failure of the flex plates and ring gear, causing significant damage to components between the engine and transmission.

This is a major repair, but work is already underway.

Members of the Callisburg Volunteer Fire Department, alongside a local heavy equipment mechanic who has generously stepped up to help, are putting in the time and effort to tear the truck down, identify everything damaged, locate replacement parts, and get Brush 116 back in service as quickly—and safely—as possible.

Being a volunteer firefighter involves a lot more than answering calls. Sometimes it means spending your evenings and weekends covered in grease, turning wrenches and doing whatever it takes to keep our equipment ready for the next emergency.

Repairs of this magnitude also come with a significant cost. The flex plates, ring gear, starter, associated hardware and other components that may have been damaged will mean several thousand dollars in parts alone.

This is exactly why the support we receive from our community matters. Fundraisers, donations and sponsorships help us maintain and repair the equipment we depend on to protect our fire district.

We greatly appreciate our volunteers, the local professionals lending their expertise, and everyone in our community who continues to stand behind this department.

🔧 We’ll keep everyone updated as Brush 116 goes back together. We’re looking forward to seeing her back on the road and back to work!

Valid 1:00 PM Sunday, September 6th.

We have reviewed the latest total snowfall forecast for North Texas in great detail.

Callisburg and the rest of our 136 square miles:

0.00 inches.

That’s the whole map. All of it. Gray = 1 inch. We didn’t even make the first color.

We’ve already:
• Cancelled the snow-route plan
• Put the chains back in the shed
• Told the guys they can stop practicing their “Texas blizzard” speeches
• Confirmed the sledding hill behind the station is still just a grassy slope with fire ants

All jokes aside, it will still be September in Texas. Hydrate, check on your neighbors, and keep an eye on those dry grasses. We’ll take grass fires over a September blizzard any day.
