This week, we recognize and honor National Police Week — a time to remember the law enforcement officers across our nation who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to show appreciation for those who continue to serve their communities each day. 🇺🇸💙

Policing is more than responding to calls for service. It is building relationships, protecting our neighborhoods, supporting victims, mentoring youth, comforting families in crisis, and standing ready during someone’s worst day.

We are grateful for the trust and support of our community, and we remain committed to serving with professionalism, integrity, and compassion.

Please join us in remembering the fallen, supporting the families they left behind, and thanking the officers who continue to wear the badge with honor.

We’ve seen an increase in electric bicycle (e-bike) use around our community, and we want to make sure everyone is riding safely and understands the law.

Under Iowa law, most e-bikes are treated the same as traditional bicycles—but there are a few important rules:

Power & Speed Limits
E-bikes must have a motor of 750 watts or less and working pedals.
- Class 1 & 2 e-bikes: up to 20 mph
- Class 3 e-bikes: up to 28 mph

If your bike exceeds these limits, it may be considered a motor vehicle and subject to different laws.

Age Requirements
- Class 1 & 2: No minimum age under state law
- Class 3: Riders must be at least 16 years old

License & Registration
No driver’s license, registration, or insurance is required for standard e-bikes.

Helmets
While not required by state law, helmets are strongly encouraged for all riders—especially younger riders.

Where You Can Ride
E-bikes are generally allowed anywhere traditional bicycles are permitted, including streets and bike paths. However, some local restrictions may apply.

Safety Reminders
- Ride with traffic and obey all traffic laws
- Be visible—especially at night
- Use caution on sidewalks and shared trails
- Parents: know what type of e-bike your child is riding

Our goal is to keep everyone—riders, pedestrians, and drivers—safe. If you have questions about e-bike laws or safe riding, feel free to reach out.

I was just sitting in my office doing paperwork; I look up at the camera and see these colorful boxes in the lobby..what could they be?
THANK YOU!

Earlier today, Camanche Fire Department was assisted by the Camanche Police Department in establishing a landing zone at the Camanche High School practice field for a critical medical call where air care was essential for the patient. Their coordinated efforts ensured a safe and efficient response during a time-sensitive emergency.
Law enforcement is essential to patient helicopter transfer missions, ensuring scene safety and securing landing zones so flight crews and Camanche Fire can focus on critical care. With the discontinuation of the cardiac cath lab at Mercy One Medical Center, air medical transports for critical patients—especially cardiac cases—are expected to increase in Camanche. This makes the partnership between Camanche Fire, Camanche Police and aeromedical teams more vital than ever for rapid, life-saving transport. 🚁🚑
