Across the country, Gen Z volunteers are transforming what community service looks like — and leaders like Anna Moua and Ashley Martinez are at the heart of it.

As American Red Cross Club Presidents, they bring their fellow students together through monthly Red Cross Club meetings, build leadership skills and organize projects that support home fire survivors, veterans and local blood donors.

Their generation now makes up nearly half of all Red Cross volunteers across Central California. Their impact is real, visible and growing.

Thank you to ABC30 Action News for highlighting their impact in our community. ⛑️

Gen Z is now the fastest-growing and largest volunteer group in the Central California Red Cross.

Happy birthday, Dr. Charles R. Drew! 🎉

Dr. Charles R. Drew’s research changed medicine forever. By developing methods to preserve and transport blood plasma, he made it possible to store blood safely, expand blood donations and deliver lifesaving care to patients when and where it’s needed most.

Not only was he the first medical director of our Blood Services, his leadership also helped shape early blood donation programs and trained generations of Black surgeons — multiplying his impact far beyond his own work.

Because of his innovations, millions of lives have been saved and continue to be saved every day.

Our volunteers were honored to participate in the 12th Annual Thousand Flags at The Park at River Walk on Memorial Day Weekend. 🇺🇸

More than 1,000 American flags were on display to honor Kern County veterans and fallen soldiers. It was a powerful display and opportunity to reflect on their sacrifice.

Through our Service to the Armed Forces programs, the Red Cross supports military members and their families with 24/7 emergency communications, resiliency programs and compassionate care at home and around the world.

If you’re a service member or military family member, learn more about how we can help at redcross.org/military.

This is why you should take extreme heat seriously. ➡️ Extreme heat kills more people every year than any other weather event in the U.S.

The climate crisis is causing heat waves to become more frequent, intense and longer lasting.

On Global Heat Action Day, we can take action to prepare. Protect yourself and prevent heat-related illnesses and death by following these tips:

- Verify that your air conditioning at home is working properly.
- If your home is too hot, find a public place with air conditioning like a library to stay cool.
- Check on loved ones and neighbors who may live alone and don’t have air conditioning.

Taking these steps now can help keep you and your loved ones safe when temperatures rise. ❤️
