Good afternoon PVSD families,

There is so much excitement across our schools as we prepare to welcome students back on Wednesday, August 19! I had the opportunity to attend our middle school orientations this week, and it was such a joy to see students and families back on our campuses. There was a wonderful energy as students reconnected with friends, met staff, found their way around campus, and began looking ahead to the new school year. Our welcome back events across the district have brought that same sense of excitement and anticipation as we get closer to the first day.

Our staff members are preparing too. I especially enjoyed welcoming our new teachers and other certificated staff to the district this week and spending time with our classified staff at Classified Professional Development Day. It is always exciting to see our team come back together and to welcome new members to our district family. Across the district, our staff members are learning, connecting, and preparing for the important work of supporting our students and families.

As we prepare for the first day of school, please take a few minutes to complete your child’s Fall Enrollment and First Day Forms in ParentConnect. These forms provide our schools with important information we need to begin the year and help us care for your child throughout the school day.

Please pay particular attention to your emergency contacts. Emergency contacts should be current and should include individuals who live nearby and could quickly come to the school if you are unavailable. Having accurate phone numbers and local emergency contacts is especially important when an unexpected situation occurs and we need to reach someone on your child’s behalf. Thank you for helping us make sure everything is ready for a safe and successful start to the school year.

If your family is attending Wings Over Camarillo this weekend, be sure to stop by the STEM Hall and check out the flight simulator exhibition featuring current and former Las Colinas Middle School Aviation Club students! The students will be sharing their skills under the direction of retired Las Colinas teacher Thad Robbins with his LC team of teachers.. I love seeing our students continue to pursue their interests and share what they have learned with our community. I plan to stop by too, so maybe I will see you there!
We cannot wait to welcome our students back on Wednesday, August 19!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Danielle Cortés
Superintendent of Schools

Please complete: Fall Enrollment and First Day Forms

Fall Enrollment and First Day Forms are open now, in the Q Parent Connect Portal (https://pvsd.vcoe.org/parentconnect/). Student information and first day forms need to be completed by every PVSD family for every PVSD student. We ask that you work on this, with the goal of completing it prior to your child’s orientation (if applicable) or first day of school, which is fast approaching on Wednesday, August 19th.

If you need help with the process, including help with logging in, please contact your school office. If you need assistance outside of regular school office hours (7:30am – 4pm), the District Office is offering evening office hours today from 4:30pm - 6:00pm.

Thank you for your support as we continue to prepare for the start of the 26-27 school year.

Please take a moment to read these important back to school safety tips from the Camarillo Police Department!

Camarillo, Calif. – As summer draws to a close and students prepare to return to school, the Camarillo Police Department reminds all drivers to make safety a top priority during the upcoming Back-to-School Month by slowing down, following the speed limit and being extra careful driving through school zones.

"This time of year brings increased activity around schools and it’s crucial to be mindful behind the wheel,” Sergeant Tommy Miller said. "Every driver plays a role in keeping children safe by slowing down and paying close attention in and around school zones. It is all our responsibility to ensure children get to and from school safely.”

The Camarillo Police Department offers the following tips to stay safe around schools:

• Slow down and follow the speed limit.

• Adhere to school policies and procedures for dropping off and picking up students.

• Stop for school buses. Watch for children rushing to catch the bus or exiting.

• Look out for people walking and yield at all marked and unmarked crosswalks.

• For parents with children walking or biking to school, teach them safe walking and riding behaviors, such as looking both ways before crossing the street, using sidewalks when available and crossing at corners when there is no marked crosswalk.

If you are behind a school bus with a stop sign and flashing red lights, drivers need to stop so students can safely get on and off the bus. Drivers must remain stopped while the red lights are on. Drivers in both directions must stop on any two-lane road without a median or a center turn lane.
