During Tuesday evening’s Camas School Board meeting, Superintendent John Anzalone presented School Resource Officers Kevin Hermann and Tim Fellows with The Mill Town Pride Award.

The Mill Town Pride Award is an honor presented by the Camas School District, to recognize students, teachers, and community members who exemplify outstanding leadership, compassion, or civic service. The officers were nominated for the award by various school district principals and vice principals, who had witnessed their performance working in the schools and their interactions amongst students and staff during the school year.

Congratulations to both Officer Hermann and Fellows.

⚡️ PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ⚡️

If your “e-bike” goes 45 mph, sounds like a spaceship, and can beat traffic off the line… congratulations — that’s probably not a bicycle anymore. 🏍️

In Washington State, electric motorcycles/scooters over 750 watts are considered motor vehicles and require:

✔️ A valid driver license

✔️ A motorcycle endorsement

✔️ Registration and other legal requirements

Also important: children cannot obtain a motorcycle endorsement. If your 12-year-old is riding a 5,000-watt electric motorcycle around town, that’s not “just a bike ride.”

Parents/guardians can be held responsible for allowing an unlicensed juvenile to operate a motor vehicle and may face citations — or in some cases, criminal charges.

We know these bikes are fun, fast, and popular, but we’d much rather see kids riding safely than meeting us during a traffic stop.

Please:

🔹 Know what your child is riding

🔹 Check the wattage and classification

🔹 Follow licensing laws

🔹 Wear helmets and ride responsibly

Because “I thought it was an e-bike” sounds a lot less convincing when it passes other cars at 50 mph.

As a reminder to our citizens, in Washington State discharging fi****ms within city limits is generally illegal, EXCEPT at authorized shooting ranges. Camas Municipal Code (CMC) 9.28.020 “Discharge Weapon Within the City”, and CMC 9.28.030 “Aim/Discharge Firearm” are aimed at ensuring public safety. Discharging a firearm within our city limits creates a high risk of danger to people, animals, or property in a densely populated area. To commit such an act is a criminal offense.

This week, on both Sunday night and Tuesday afternoon, citizens called 911 reporting hearing gunshots along the north side of Lacamas Lake. In both reported incidents, officers responded and were unable to locate anyone discharging a firearm. However, on Sunday night in a gravel parking lot near the 600 block of NE 35th Ave officers did find several spent pistol casings and a nearby tree that been shot several times (used as a target). Camas Police Department is asking for public assistance in identifying the person, or persons, responsible for discharging a firearm Sunday night near the 600 block NE 35th Ave. If you have any information regarding who may be responsible, please contact the Camas Police Department.

Camas Police Department would like to express our sincere thanks to the Union High School Titans baseball team for honoring the men and women in their community who have served within our community and/or our country.

Tonight's home game at Union High School was the "Honor Game" as they hosted and played the Union High School Storm. Throughout the game they took time to recognize family members, friends, and community members for their service. In attendance was one of our School Resource Officers, Tim Fellows. Tim was asked to throw the first pitch, which was a strike (sort of).

Again, thank you Titan baseball team and to others who helped in putting the event together.
