WSHPCO is delighted to announce Dr. Hope Wechkin as the 2025 recipient of the Dr. Stuart Farber Excellence in Hospice & Palliative Care Award, presented October 20 at our Centered in Care conference at Campbell’s Resort in Chelan.

Dr. Wechkin embodies the spirit of Dr. Farber’s legacy through her leadership, creativity, and compassion. A gifted clinician, educator, and artist, she bridges medicine and the humanities—writing and composing musical works like Withing and Mercy that explore presence, forgiveness, and love.

Nationally recognized for her work on VSED, Minimal Comfort Feeding, and end-of-life options, she leads with intellect, empathy, and heart. Her dedication to mentoring colleagues and advancing palliative care continues to inspire our community.

What a great conference we just finished in Chelan! “Embracing Grace: A Journey of Gratitude in Hospice & Palliative Care” just wrapped up in Chelan this week, with 205 attendees from California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. It was our largest crowd since pre-COVID and thanks to all of you who supported this conference: Our Premier Sponsor, Bellevue Healthcare, the WA-DOH Rural Palliative Care Initiative, Hilda and Mary and the Silent Auction Team, our exhibitors, faculty members, volunteers, hospice and palliative care programs in attendance, WSHPCO staff and the wonderful team at Campbell’s Resort.
