The Farrell House

The Farrell House The Farrell House - Built in 1915 for Charles and Rose Farrell by Rose's brother John Rofler from a post card Rose showed her brother.

Welcome to the Farrell House

In 1915, John Roffler built the elegant Farrell House for his sister. Ursula "Rose" (1871-1957) had married Charles Eugene Farrell (1869-1967). She asked her brother to design a grand Classical Revival house as seen on a postcard. The house has an imposing porch formed by two-story concrete columns. The property has a cast concrete "Roffler Rock" retaining wall. Charl

es was the first registered voter in the City of Camas. In August of 2010 Heidi Curley purchased the home from the Farrell family. Earlier that summer she was walking down Ione St. in Camas headed down to the Camas Days Parade, looked up and saw a beautiful white home against a blue sky with a For Sale sign in the front yard. She remember thinking “Wow, this is so me.” She went to the Camas Days parade and watched two of her three girls ride their new bikes down the old tree-lined street into downtown Camas. When the parade was over she called the realtor and they met me the following day to show the house. Heidi recalls walking up the front steps and into the house, and the minute the door opened, she felt like she was home and bought the house the very next day. Heidi primarily intended to use the house to raise her three young daughters, and they were excited to move in late that summer. With much input from the City of Camas, she explored the possibility of hosting small, private gatherings at the house - intimate birthday and anniversary parties, ladies’ teas, elegant receptions, business events and small garden weddings. Unfortunately for Heidi, many neighbors and the city council did not agree with Heidi's vision. In May of 2013, Mike and Michelle Hughes purchased the home from Heidi. Mike and Michelle have two teenage boys and are long time residents of Camas. The Hughes family originally arrived in Camas in 1930 and have been residents ever since. Mike's dad Jim Hughes graduated from Camas High school with Glenn "Buzz" Farrell, Charles Farrell's grandson. Verna Hughes, Mikes' grandmother, lived on 17th street across from the tennis courts since the mid 1940's until she past in 2007. Mike and Michelle intend to live in the home with their boys and plan on continuing the remodel effort that Heidi Curley put much effort and time into. They look forward to many years of sharing this beautiful historic home with friends and family.
