Fire Chief Burkey shares an important message about emergency preparedness and the steps we can all take to help keep our families, neighborhoods, and community safe.

Whether it’s a wildfire, earthquake, tsunami, power outage, or other emergency, preparation starts before an emergency happens. Know your evacuation zone, sign up for emergency alerts, have a go bag ready, create an evacuation plan, and check in with your neighbors.

Simple steps today can make a big difference when it matters most.

Cambria Fire is committed to working together with our community to build a more prepared, resilient, and safer Cambria.

🇺🇸 Fourth of July Safety Reminder 🇺🇸

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, the Cambria Fire Department would like to remind everyone that all fireworks—including “Safe and Sane” fireworks—are prohibited within the Cambria Community Services District, even if they were legally purchased elsewhere.

With increased visitors, community events, and holiday celebrations, we ask everyone to do their part to help keep Cambria safe:

🔥 No Fireworks – Fireworks create a significant wildfire risk in our dry coastal environment and are prohibited within Cambria.

🚒 Keep Access Clear – Never block fire hydrants, fire lanes, or driveways. Emergency vehicles need immediate access when every second counts.

🕯️ Practice Fire Safety – Use extra caution with candles, grills, holiday decorations, and outdoor cooking. Never leave open flames unattended.

🚶 Stay Aware – If you’re attending community events, know where emergency exits are located, establish a meeting place with family, and report any suspicious activity or unsafe conditions.

🚗 Be Patient – Expect heavier vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the holiday weekend. Slow down, stay alert, and help make Cambria welcoming for everyone.

If you observe someone using fireworks, please report it to the Sheriff’s non-emergency dispatch at (805) 781-4550. Call 9-1-1 only for emergencies.

The Cambria Fire Department will be on duty throughout the holiday weekend and is proud to serve our community alongside our public safety partners.

From all of us at Cambria Fire, we wish you and your family a safe, happy, and memorable Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🚒

Training never stops.

This past week, two Cambria Fire personnel attended an advanced Rope Rescue Technician course, where they spent a week building and refining the technical rescue skills needed to operate safely and effectively in challenging environments.

The course included high-angle rescue operations, rope system construction, patient packaging, mechanical advantage systems, and complex rescue scenarios. These advanced skills help prepare our firefighters to respond to incidents involving cliffs, steep terrain, and other technical rescue emergencies that can occur throughout our community.

We are proud of our firefighters commitment to professional development and their dedication to bringing these specialized skills back to Cambria to better serve our residents and visitors.

🚨 W**D ABATEMENT DEADLINE – JULY 1, 2026 🚨

The Cambria Fire Department reminds property owners that all w**d abatement and fire hazard fuel reduction work must be completed by July 1, 2026.

To help reduce wildfire risk, property owners should:

✅ Remove combustible trash and construction debris
✅ Cut w**ds and annual grasses to 4 inches or less
✅ Remove downed limbs, dead vegetation, and other combustible materials
✅ Remove ladder fuels beneath trees and shrubs
✅ Remove invasive fire-prone vegetation such as broom, pampas grass, jubata grass, and fire w**d (Crocosmia)

Please remember that even if your property was cleared earlier this year, recent growth may require additional maintenance before inspection.

⚠️ No extensions will be granted.

Properties that do not meet the requirements may be abated by the District’s contractor at the property owner’s expense, including contractor costs and administrative fees.

Wildfire preparedness is a shared responsibility. Thank you for doing your part to help keep Cambria safe.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Cambria Fire Open House this weekend. It was great connecting with our community, meeting families, and giving people a closer look at what your local firefighters do.

We’d also like to give a special thank you to Cambria Towing and The Cookie Crock for their generous donations and support of the event. We truly appreciate local businesses that continue to support first responders and our community.

Thank you again, Cambria. We’re proud to serve this town.

We’re also encouraging everyone to help spread the word by sharing this with friends, family, and neighbors throughout the community. The more properties we can get cleaned up before fire season, the better prepared Cambria will be.
