Thank you Bridget and Sharon for helping to spread the word about the Safe Haven Baby Boxes that is now located in Cambridge.
Under Ohio’s Safe Haven Law, a parent can legally surrender a newborn up to 30 days old at any designated Baby Box.
The Cambridge Fire Station, 902 Gaston Ave, Cambridge, OH 43725, now has a Safe Haven Baby Box where a parent, who is unable to take care of a newborn baby, may place an infant up to 30 days old in the climate controlled box.
The box has an alarm system that alerts 911 and that a baby has been placed anonymously in the box. There are no cameras monitoring the box, so the parent cannot be identified.
When the alarm sounds and 911 alerts them, one of the firefighters checks the box and brings the infant inside within five minutes. Alerts are sent to medical personnel for a physical evaluation, and to Children's Services for foster care.
Inside the box for the parent, there is a bag with some supplies and an 800 number for the parent to call for support for this difficult decision.
Placing the baby in the Safe Haven Box will give that infant a chance for life.

Mandy McGlumphy at Southeastern Ohio Counseling Center is available for counseling needs. She will also be speaking to students in area high schools to let them know of the Safe Haven Box.
