There are 12 schools: two high schools, a career and technology center, two middle schools, six elementary schools and a kindergarten through 8th grade school. There are approximately 5000 students in the district. Our elementary schools are currently using the Houghton Mifflin Reading Program and MacMillan/McGraw-Hill Math Connects. High schools offer a full College preparatory curriculum as well as options in occupational skills. The Dorchester Career and Technology Center receives students from both high schools and offers programs in Food Service, Masonry, Carpentry, Electrical Operations, HVAC, Automotive Body, Welding, Horticulture and Medical Services. IBM-compatible computers are used throughout the system in individual classrooms as well as strategically placed computer labs. There are courses in Technology Simulations, Keyboarding, Computer Applications, and Computerized Accounting. Every classroom has access to the Microsoft Office Products as well as to the Internet. The Dual Enrollment Program with Chesapeake College offers the opportunity for the students who wish to get started on their college credits. Family Support Services Resource Center for Families and Schools is designed to support children with disabilities from birth to 21. The center provides the skills and knowledge to enable families and children to understand the Special Education process.

Good Afternoon DCPS Families!

There is a slight chance of winter weather this evening, so just in case it impacts school tomorrow, students are being sent home today with their devices and/or paper learning packets.

If weather does cause a school closure, we will move to virtual instruction for the day. This is simply a precaution—we’re hoping Mother Nature cooperates and that we’ll see our students bright and early on Wednesday!

Thank you for helping us be prepared (and fingers crossed we won’t need it 🤞).

Happy National School Counseling Week!!!! 🎉📚🎉

The purpose of this week is to focus public attention on the unique contribution of School Counselors, formerly known as guidance counselors, within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February. The 2026 theme is "School Counselors Amplify Student Success!"

The Office of Student Services is excited to celebrate our amazing DCPS School Counselors and thank all School Counselors for your continued efforts in Amplifying Student Success by helping students achieve academically, socially, emotionally, and in post secondary planning!!! 🎉🎉🎉
