The LED accent lights at City Hall are red this week, in remembrance of National Fallen Firefighter Memorial Weekend. This weekend, firefighters from around the country will gather in Emmitsburg, MD and honor the firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2025. We also remember all of those we have lost in the past, including our very own, Chip Imker.

The City has received several calls this morning raising concerns of an exposed flame coming from the propane tanks near the railroad crossing at highway 95. Lakes Gas is in the process of burning off the propane in one of the storage tanks in this area in preparation for the highway 95 expansion project. The City of Cambridge and Cambridge Fire are aware of the flames. There is no threat to public safety, and traffic should proceed normally. This work should be completed by the end of the day today, April 23rd, 2026.

Last night we had the honor of celebrating a major milestone for several of our own. After months of hard work, commitment, and countless hours of training, our probationary firefighters have officially earned their place as full-fledged firefighters with the Cambridge Fire Department.

We couldnโ€™t be more proud of the time and dedication theyโ€™ve already invested into serving this community. CFD is stronger today because of these firefighters, and the future is bright with them on our team.

It was great having their families join us for the badge pinning ceremonyโ€”thank you for the support you give these firefighters every day. Below are some photos from a very special night.

Congratulations, and welcome to the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Cambridge Fire Department! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Charging something big like an e-bike, scooter, or power tool with a lithium-ion battery? Do it outside. Use a flat, dry area away from direct sunlight, anything wet, kids, or tripping hazards. And make sure your bike or device is secureโ€”so it doesnโ€™t fall while charging. Charge Into Fire Safety for Fire Prevention Week.

Before you buy anything with a lithium-ion battery, do your homework. Check the packaging and product for a mark from a nationally recognized testing labโ€”that stamp means it meets real safety standards. A lot of products sold online and in stores donโ€™t, and that can seriously increase your risk of fire. Charge Into Fire Safety for Fire Prevention Week.
