Queen Latifah has put real money behind her love for her hometown. The Newark native invested $14 million into a mixed use housing development focused on expanding affordable housing while supporting long term community growth in Newark.

The project was developed through her company, BlueSugar Corporation, in partnership with GonSosa Development. It includes income based affordable housing alongside market rate units, creating a balanced and sustainable community. The development also features shared community spaces designed for local residents.

After years of planning, the project broke ground in 2022. As housing costs rise nationwide, Queen Latifah’s investment shows how hometown driven action can create lasting impact beyond entertainment.

We're Community Development. The train is out of the gate. It is so very important that we work towards increasing the presence of black-owned businesses downtown in Cambridge, Maryland, along the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway.

This is why the North Star Village campus is important, says Executive Director Jermaine Anderson. It is crucial for growth and visual impact. As we move forward, We're committed to this. We must be authentic in doing so. Forward.....
