Today, December 3rd, 2020, at 6:00PM EST, join the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics for a discussion on the unprecedented turnout and impact from young voters 18-to-29 years old. A panel of strategists will examine Biden’s communications and organizing strategy from the end of the primary season through Election Day that led to Obama-level margins of youth support and how Democrats can leverage these lessons ahead of the Georgia Senate runoff on January 5th.

Ashley Allison, former National Coalitions Director for Biden for President, Peter Hamby, host of Snapchat’s Good Luck America and contributing writer for Vanity Fair, Nsé Ufot, Chief Executive Officer of the New Georgia Project and its affiliate, New Georgia Project Action Fund will join in a conversation moderated by John Della Volpe, Director of Polling at the Institute of Politics. Della Volpe was on leave in the fall semester from the Harvard Youth Poll to serve as an advisor on youth engagement for the Biden-Harris campaign.

Want to get involved in the final days of the election but not sure where to start? This weekend, the HLS Dems will be hosting a number of phone banking and GOTV opportunities through Zoom. Below are the dates and times:

• Saturday: 9AM-9PM EST
• Sunday: 9AM-9PM EST
• Monday: 9AM-9PM EST
• Tuesday: 9AM-7PM EST

Members of the HLS Dems Board will be on each call to help give advice and answer questions. We can help set you up with volunteering opportunities at the state and federal level in the staging room. Feel free to drop in whenever is convenient for you, and to stay as long as you can. Every little bit goes a long way to help elect Dems both nationally and locally.

Webinar for HLS Students: The Importance of Voter Protection

This year, Republicans are brazen about using any means necessary, including misinforming and intimidating potential voters, to retain the presidency and their Senate majority. With Covid-19 unsettling our ability to run elections normally, they are attempting to use this confusion to further limit ballot accessibility. That's where Voter Protection comes in. Attend this event to learn about what the program organizations including Fair Fight Action, Joe Biden for President, and state parties are building to make sure every eligible voter has access to the ballot—and that every vote is properly counted.

HLS DEMS ELECTIONS

HLS Dems is holding elections for its 2020-2021 academic year leadership! The elected positions are:
3L President
2L President
Vice-President
Programming Chair
Treasurer
Communications Director

Elections for these 6 positions will take place on Tuesday, September 15 at 8:00pm EST. 2L and 3L students are able to:

through Monday, September 14 at 11:59 pm. Those wishing to run or vote must sign-up using the links (& their HLS email address) before the deadline.
Students that sign-up to run or vote will receive a link to the Zoom election meeting on September 15. In addition to RSVPing and attending the Zoom meeting, students wishing to vote will also be required to have subscribed to the HLS Dems newsletter. If you are unable to attend the election due to geographic constraints, you will be able to submit your vote via email.

The newly elected leadership will then issue a call for applications for the remaining board positions, and will appoint board members from the applicants.

As law students, we are in a unique position to help ensure safe, fair, and accessible elections by supporting voter protection and assistance work, including staffing voter protection hotlines, observing canvassing, or monitoring polls. While needs vary across states, there are many opportunities for remote volunteering, and commitment times may be as little as one hour per week.
