It is that time of year once again, the celebration of last year's accomplishments and the forecast for the year ahead. If you did not see our annual newsletter in The Eagle this week, please take a moment to read it here. 2025 was just a wonderful year at the library and watching so many individuals step up and work together to build a stronger community has filled our hearts with hope!! We plan to continue that momentum in 2026.
With the budget vote on May 19th quickly approaching the library wanted to break down some numbers. This year, the Cambridge Public Library School District Appropriation ask is for $90,000. This is a $10,000 increase from last year. However, this is only a $5,000 increase in our budget for the 2026/2027 Fiscal Year. The other $5,000 is actually a redistribution of existing funding. We are working with the Village of Cambridge to spread library funding in a more equitable and sustainable fashion. Village residents will notice that the Village of Cambridge contribution to the library has been decreased from $25,041 to $20,041 for the upcoming Fiscal Year. Over the next few years, we are planning to transition our budget funding to be spread across the entire school district and ease some of the burden that is put directly on Village residents. This seems to be a more accurate and fair distribution considering that 2/3 of library patrons do not live within the Village of Cambridge. We want to stress that the $5,000 increase to the library budget will only cover the rising cost of fuel and energy, and the increase in minimum wage for our staff members. As always, we welcome and encourage our community members to contact the library director at [email protected] with any questions, comments, or concerns. We are so appreciative of all the support that this community has shown our little library over the years!💖
