Cambridge Public Library

Cambridge Public Library The Cambridge Public Library is a publicly funded library in Cambridge, NY. Our Library is funded primarily by village taxes.

Additional revenue is obtained by a school district proposition and contributions from the surrounding towns of Cambridge, Jackson and White Creek. Our library is chartered to serve the village of Cambridge, but serves residents of the surrounding area as well as vacationers and other visitors to our community. The Library has a special collection of local and New York history materials. The news

paper The Washington County Post is on microfilm beginning with the date 1849. A collection of books, periodicals, cemetery records and maps are available for use within the library.

Members of the Cambridge Public Library Board of Trustees attended the 68th Annual SALS Meeting last night where we celebrated all the incredible things that the SALS Member Libraries achieved in the last year. Cambridge was given the "Glow Up Award" for our construction project and we were able to honor our very own Robert "Bob" Odessa. Bob completed his final term as Treasurer of the Cambridge Board in January of 2026 after 22 years of volunteer service to our little library. We were beyond excited to learn that he won "Trustee of the Year". Thank you Bob for all you have done for our library and this community over the years! ❤️

It is that time of year once again, the celebration of last year's accomplishments and the forecast for the year ahead. If you did not see our annual newsletter in The Eagle this week, please take a moment to read it here. 2025 was just a wonderful year at the library and watching so many individuals step up and work together to build a stronger community has filled our hearts with hope!! We plan to continue that momentum in 2026.
With the budget vote on May 19th quickly approaching the library wanted to break down some numbers. This year, the Cambridge Public Library School District Appropriation ask is for $90,000. This is a $10,000 increase from last year. However, this is only a $5,000 increase in our budget for the 2026/2027 Fiscal Year. The other $5,000 is actually a redistribution of existing funding. We are working with the Village of Cambridge to spread library funding in a more equitable and sustainable fashion. Village residents will notice that the Village of Cambridge contribution to the library has been decreased from $25,041 to $20,041 for the upcoming Fiscal Year. Over the next few years, we are planning to transition our budget funding to be spread across the entire school district and ease some of the burden that is put directly on Village residents. This seems to be a more accurate and fair distribution considering that 2/3 of library patrons do not live within the Village of Cambridge. We want to stress that the $5,000 increase to the library budget will only cover the rising cost of fuel and energy, and the increase in minimum wage for our staff members. As always, we welcome and encourage our community members to contact the library director at [email protected] with any questions, comments, or concerns. We are so appreciative of all the support that this community has shown our little library over the years!💖
