We continue to mourn with our Muslim sisters, brothers, and siblings in Christchurch, New Zealand, Palestine, Boston, and around the world today. With heavy hearts we extend our love to the bereaved. We remain devastated and outraged by the Islamophobia and white supremacy responsible for taking the lives of 49 people and injuring 48 people at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques, places of worship meant to provide peace and sanctuary. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, with whom we stand firmly in solidarity to demand justice.

A recent article issued by the U.S. embassy in China described the growing solidarity movement between Marxist students and workers, highlighting the efforts of the Harvard International Socialists, among other organizations. When the article was widely circulated on social media, Harvard socialists saw it as an opportunity to respond to the hypocrisy of the U.S. state and to build greater international support for Jasic workers who face repression in China. The solidarity campaign includes a global call on the Chinese government to release workers and other activists who have been arrested for union organizing and solidarity actions at Shenzhen Jasic Technology. Follow the campaign here: Global Support for Disappeared Left Activists in China

Socialists express their support for struggles in China in response to the cynical attempt by the U.S. embassy to use their name.

*Statement from Harvard International Socialists*

On December 10, the US embassy in China published an article regarding the growth of marxist groups on campuses and their solidarity with workers struggles such as the recent Marriott hotel strikes. The article cited the Harvard International Socialists as an example of that growth. It is true that there is a growing socialist movement on campuses and that there is growing solidarity between student activist groups and workers struggles and we welcome positive attention to this development. We are part of an international movement of young people who reject the status quo and look to solidarity with all those who are oppressed and exploited.

However, we are skeptical of the intentions of the US embassy’s article. Far from being welcoming to socialist movements in the US, the US government has a long history of punishing and attacking socialists from the red scare at the beginning of the 20th century to McCarthyism in the 1950’s to the imprisonment and murder of Black revolutionaries in the 1960’s and 1970’s under COINTELPRO. We reject the attempt of the US embassy to use our movements in the US for chauvinistic purposes.

We stand with Chinese students who have been under attack by the Chinese government for their solidarity with Jasic workers who have been trying to organize for better conditions. We are outraged at the way workers and students have been harassed, assaulted and detained for their efforts to fight for better working conditions and basic human rights. We encourage everyone to read more about their case and find ways to build solidarity. Solidarity between workers and students and across all borders is necessary in our struggle for a better world.

Horrifying. Justice will come when we win a world without borders.

and the International Socialist Organization - Boston stand in solidarity with Marc Lamont Hill!

From Socialist Worker: "The right-wing press has been particularly incensed at Hill’s use of the popular slogan “from the river to the sea” toward the end of his address, insisting that this turn of phrase is a call to anti-Jewish violence. But it is nothing of the sort. The idea that Palestinians should have freedom and equality from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea has been the aspiration and demand of Palestine’s native inhabitants since their land was first carved up and occupied by colonial powers.

“From the river to the sea” is an acknowledgment of the humanity of the more than 700,000 indigenous Palestinians displaced from their homes 70 years ago during Israel’s foundation. It’s an acknowledgment of the more than 7 million Palestinian refugees living in the diaspora today; of the 230 human beings slain by Israeli soldiers during this year’s Great Return March in Gaza, like Razan al-Najjar, Yaser Murtaja and Ibrahim Abu Thuraya; and of the everyday oppression of Palestinians enduring military occupation and apartheid in the West Bank and Israel."

Solidarity with Marc Lamont Hill, all Palestinian people, and National SJP!
