Claudette Colvin was the first to take a seat, on a bus, in Montgomery, AL and was arrested at 15. Instead of paying the fine and moving on like many at the time did, she went to trial and fought for her constitutional right. It was 9 months later that Rosa Parks took a seat, on a bus,in the same city and thanks to Claudette Colvin, the Montgomery black leaders were prepared to rally and organized the boycott of all city buses which led to the lawsuit against Montgomery alleging segregation violated the U.S. Constitution. There were only 4 plaintiffs that would testify, one being Claudette Colvin.
