Office (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.): 617-492-8306 Founded in 1973, the Boston Area R**e Crisis Center (BARCC) provides free, confidential support and services to survivors of sexual violence ages 12 and up and their families and friends. We work with survivors of all genders regardless

of when the violence occurred, and our goal is to empower survivors to heal and seek justice in ways that are meaningful to them. We meet the needs of survivors in crisis and long after, and we assist survivors as they navigate the health-care, criminal justice, social service, and school systems. We also work with a wide range of organizations and communities, including high schools, colleges, police, health-care providers, and businesses, to advocate for change. We provide training in how to respond to survivors and create cultures that prevent sexual violence in the first place. We are frequently asked to provide expert testimony about potential policy and legislative solutions to preventing and responding to sexual violence. We also provide expert commentary in the media on these issues. We are powered by a great staff and by more than 190 volunteers from our communities.

The issue is not a lack of resilience; it's a lack of support.

In our latest blog, “The Silence After Violence,” survivor Adiely Cifuentes shares a powerful reflection on navigating sexual violence within cultural and systemic barriers. Her story sheds light on the realities many Latina survivors face, from stigma and silence to gaps in culturally responsive care - and the urgent need for systems that truly support survivors of all backgrounds.

Content note: This piece includes references to sexual violence and systemic mistreatment.

Read more on the blog to hear Adiely’s story and why breaking the silence matters.

We celebrated our 20th Annual Walk for Change on Sunday, 4/26, and we’re still feeling so grateful for the partners who make this work possible.

One of those partners is our friends at Kirkland & Ellis, who generously sponsored the event at the Advocate level and showed up to walk in solidarity with our community.

"It’s a true privilege for Kirkland & Ellis to be able to support BARCC’s Walk for Change. Not only is this event a great way to bring together a community of like-minded volunteers and advocates, but it also serves as a reminder of the vital work BARCC does to raise awareness of and provide support to survivors of sexual violence.”

With a global platform of approximately 4,000 lawyers in 23 cities across the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Kirkland & Ellis provides elite legal advice and a relentless commitment to client service. The Firm is also proud to donate millions of dollars each year to worthy causes in our communities and around the world.

Thank you for helping us sustain this work & for showing up for survivors.

Yesterday, the Cambridge Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) - a multidisciplinary group of providers serving survivors across Cambridge and Somerville - brought the Clothesline Project to life outside of Cambridge City Hall in recognition of .

Originally created in 1990, the Clothesline Project works to educate, break the silence, and bear witness to violence against women. Each shirt tells a story - serving as both a healing tool for those who create them and a powerful reminder for those who witness them.

We were honored to display these shirts not only yesterday, but also during our Walk for Change this past Sunday. Together, these moments help raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual violence and the supports available to survivors in our communities.

Our teams also stood in solidarity by wearing denim for - a global movement that reminds us all: clothing never equals consent.
