4-H is an out-of-school, hands-on learning program for people age 5-19. Youth choose a project that’s interesting to them and explore it with peers and caring adults. 4-H clubs are groups of youth who want to learn together and meet in every part of Minnesota.

This week we are featuring youth in their last year in 4-H. We asked them to share their favorite 4-H memory with us. Our next feature is Amber A.!

My favorite 4-H memory is getting to go to state with my miniature horse, Faith, while also getting to spend time with my friends at the State Miniature Horse Show. It was a very exciting and rewarding experience because it reflected the hard work, dedication, and preparation that I spent working with my miniature horse. One of the best parts of the experience was being able to share it with my friends. We spent time cheering each other on and making memories that I will never forget.

I remember lots of enjoyable late nights playing cards with all of the goat 4-H'ers. We’d be waiting to close the barn down, and found there was nothing better than playing Skip-Bo to pass the time. The laughs we shared and the background noise of many goats trying to steal our snacks is definitely one of my favorite memories.

This week we are featuring youth in their last year in 4-H. We asked them to share their favorite 4-H memory with us. Our first feature is Konner K.!

My name's Konner K., and my favorite 4-H memory would have to be the North East Show, or as everyone called it, Brainerd. Every year, I counted down the days until we could finally go. When we arrived on Friday night, all of my friends were already there waiting for us. After getting the animals settled into their barns, we would spend hours playing Ghost in the Graveyard across the fairgrounds until our parents finally yelled at us to go to bed because “we have to show in the morning.”

Even after staying up late, we would wake up excited and ready to show. After the show, we would eat KFC together and figure out who was staying in whose hotel room that night. The best part was rushing to the water park with all of my friends and making memories I will never forget. Brainerd was always my favorite show because of all the fun memories and time spent with my friends.

Let’s Talk About Loneliness in Young People 👥

Because everyone needs someone to talk to.

Loneliness affects young people more than many realize. About 21% of teens report feeling lonely, and many keep those feelings to themselves, making it hard for others to know when they need support.

You can make a difference by choosing to check in. A simple message, a quick call, or a few kind words can remind someone they matter. You never know what someone is going through, and your small act of care might be exactly what they need.

This is video seven in an eight‑part series created by Beyond Ready to Serve youth leaders from five Minnesota counties, ranging from eighth grade and up. As they explored the needs in their communities, they discovered a shared passion for mental health, bullying prevention, and supporting older adults. Their insights and experiences shaped every part of this project.
