August 18th, 2026

Shooting- On 8/18/26 at approximately 1:12pm, Cambridge Police received a ShotSpotter alert (multiple rounds of gunfire) in the 400 block of Skinners Court. As officers responded they located a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed toward the hospital from that vicinity. While officers were responding to the alert other units diverted and followed the vehicle to the hospital. It was learned that there was a 19-year-old male victim inside the vehicle with gunshot wound to the neck, torso, and arm. The victim is being flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma.
This is a developing and active investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are urged to contact the Cambridge Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 410-228-3333.

Today Chief Todd sat on a Panel Discussion with interns from the Portia Johnson-Ennals summer youth internship program. He was joined by Mayor Cephas -Bey , Commissioner Shay Lewis -Cisco, and City Manager Glenn Steckman. It was a very engaging experience with the youth asking great questions.

On August 1st Sergeant Chad Mothersell retired from the Cambridge Police Department after serving 25 years in law enforcement. 17 1/2 of those years was patrolling the streets of Cambridge

Theft/Vehicle Pursuit/Assault- On 07/24/26 at approximately 4:39 am officers in the area of the 700 block of Foxtail Drive attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in reference to subjects inside attempting to break into vehicles in the area. As officers attempted to make a traffic stop using lights and siren the vehicle refused to stop and began driving recklessly at a high rate of speed. Nearby back up units assisted in the pursuit at which time an officer was able to deploy stop sticks at Glasgow Street and Leonard’s Lane which were successful as the vehicle ran over the sticks. The driver of the vehicle, however, refused to stop and continued throughout many city streets with tires flattened. The pursuit continued out into the Algonquin neighborhood where the vehicle went into a yard on Manito Drive. An officer stopped at the entrance of the driveway and exited the patrol vehicle to prepare to apprehend the subjects. At that time the vehicle turned around and began driving at the officer. The officer had to quickly move out of the way to avoid being struck. The suspect then rammed the police cruiser. Fortunately, due to the damage and no tire the vehicle came to a stop, which both suspects inside the vehicle were placed under arrest without further incident.
The vehicle which was a 2013 Hyundai was found to be stolen out of Fruitland. Both subjects arrested were 15 years of age. The driver was charged with several charges including 1st degree assault, reckless endangerment, motor vehicle theft, and several other related criminal and traffic offenses. The juvenile passenger was also charged with motor vehicle theft, and other related criminal charges. The juvenile driver was later held by Juvenile Services at the Lower Eastern Shore Children's Center. The juvenile passenger was later released to the parent/guardian.

Shooting Investigation- On 7/25/26 at 12:49 am Cambridge Police received a ShotSpotter alert in the 400 block of Willis Street. As officers responded to that location, it became known that a 17-year-old male juvenile had arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the facial area and the foot. The victim was later flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma due to his injuries. He has since been released. The investigation has revealed that the victim was sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle in the 400 block of Willis Street when a large group of what is believed to be juveniles, approached the vehicle, at which time, one of the subjects had a handgun and discharged two rounds at the victim in the vehicle striking him. This is still an ongoing investigation as detectives continue to gather additional information. It is believed that this incident is a result of a disagreement with both parties and there is no threat to the public. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Cambridge Police Department’s Detective division at 410-228-3333.
