Fantastic teamwork! Thankful no one was hurt.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

On February 6, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m., a Henry County Patrol Sergeant was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Route 78 near Hooppole when he observed a black passenger vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The Sergeant attempted to initiate a lawful traffic stop for a speeding violation. The vehicle failed to stop and fled southbound, leading deputies on a pursuit. During the pursuit, occupants of the vehicle were observed discarding items from the window. Deputies later recovered a firearm and a firearm magazine in the area where the items were discarded. The pursuit was terminated as the vehicle approached the Annawan city limits. Deputies continued their investigation and located the vehicle and two juvenile individuals in the vicinity of the Annawan school campus. As a precaution, the schools were briefly placed on lockdown during the incident.

One of the juvenile individuals was taken into custody without incident and is currently being detained pending further proceedings. The juvenile is being referred on the following charges:

• Speeding 73 mph in a 55 mph zone
• Speeding 120 mph in a 55 mph zone
• Aggravated fleeing and eluding
• Unlawful use of a weapon
• Possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card
• Unlawful possession of a firearm

No injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Geneseo and Kewanee Police Departments, the Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Henry County Probation Department for their assistance.

As we approach 2 years of serving our community, we want to share an important update.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Graham Medical Group, Hope Initiative has been able to operate out of a warehouse space at no cost. Their partnership has made a lasting impact, and we are deeply grateful.

Unfortunately, we have been asked to vacate the warehouse, and at this time we have not yet secured a new facility.

Because of this, we are hosting a Grab-N-Go Giveaway Event to clear out the warehouse and get these items into the hands of families who can use them.
