Better Tomorrows

Better Tomorrows Levitt saw an opportunity to rethink traditional affordable housing management when working with housing manager Jackie Jones.

Better Tomorrows provides case management services and impactful community programming to low-income adults, seniors, children, and youth residing in affordable housing communities. The heart of Better Tomorrows' work began in 1989 when an affordable housing owner and developer Mike Levitt invested in a new approach to property management for low-income communities. Jones, who had an extensive bac

kground in Human Services before entering the property management field, realized that affordable housing communities provided an excellent platform for delivering impact-driven programs and services to vulnerable families, youth, and seniors with few resources available to them. With Mike Levitt’s support, Jackie used her knowledge of social services combined with her management work to build a supportive community that fostered resident empowerment. At the heart of her approach, she believed the affordable housing community must go “beyond the bricks and mortar,” and be resident-focused. Jones identified areas of needed improvement within the community and mapped those needs against local resources and service provision partners. From local police departments to youth development organizations, she built partnerships across a spectrum of human services. These critical partnerships had an immediate impact on the community as was evidenced by a notable decrease in violence and an increase in residents finding meaningful, sustainable employment. Encouraged by Jones' success at this community, Mike Levitt named her the founding director of his newly formed Social Services Department, and together they replicated this success at properties throughout Mike’s real estate portfolio. He was committed to making Jones' social services philosophy a standard for his properties. His commitment meant dedicating significant resources to the national expansion of individual resident case management and uniquely designed community programming. As the department grew, programming advanced to include vocational and computer training. Corporate partnerships and organizational liaisons were established to advance the department’s vision. Some more notable partners included Temple University, PNC Bank, UPS, and many local businesses. With aspirations of continuing the legacy of Jackie Jones and Mike Levitt, Better Tomorrows became an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit in February 2013. The multi-service organization now supports over 40,000 low-income youth, adults, and seniors in more than 125 affordable housing communities across the country. Better Tomorrows remains committed to providing affordable housing residents with the resources to facilitate strong communities, healthy lifestyles, economic stability and educational success.

✨ May Site Spotlight: Lehighton Elderly, Lehighton, PA ✨

Lehighton Elderly is a community filled with connection, traditions, and residents who make the space their own, and Lisa helps bring so much of that to life 💙

From festive Christmas dinners and tree decorating committees to arts and crafts sessions, the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, and the Senior Spelling Bee, there is always something bringing residents together.

One of the most meaningful parts of the community is Mim’s Store, a tenant-run shop created by a beloved resident and named in her honor. Her legacy continues through a space that still brings neighbors together today.

Thank you, Lisa, for creating opportunities for connection, supporting residents, and helping make Lehighton Elderly a place residents are proud to call home!

This past Saturday, the community came together at Jackie’s Garden Community Day 💙🎉

Residents from Jackie’s Garden and 8 Diamond spent the afternoon enjoying food, music, activities, and time together with neighbors and families while connecting with community partners.

The event included face painting, prizes, a DJ, and a visit from Philadelphia Fire Engine 27, where youth were able to explore the fire engine, meet firefighters, and learn about fire safety 🚒

Residents also had the opportunity to sign up for library cards and enjoy story time with staff from Cecil B. Moore Library 📚

Community partners including PHMC, Clarifi and Temple University joined the event to connect residents with resources, while Care Access provided health screenings throughout the day.

Thank you to the Office of Keith Harris of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for supporting the event and helping provide food for residents and families throughout the day.

Days like this create opportunities for neighbors to connect, spend time together, and celebrate alongside one another.

Swipe through for some highlights from the day ☀️💙

Better Tomorrows is excited for youth from our communities to once again join BalletX for another unforgettable evening of art, music, and community 💙

Last year, 118 residents from our Philadelphia, Camden, and Chester communities attended BalletX’s Festival at the Mann. It was a fun night for residents to get out, spend time together, and experience a live performance many had never seen before.

We’re excited to do it all again this year 🎭✨ Residents will once again have the chance to enjoy BalletX together, and we’re grateful to the BalletX team for continuing to make opportunities like this possible for our communities.

If you’ve never experienced BalletX before, this is your sign to join in and experience the magic for yourself ✨

Mother’s Day is a time to come together and celebrate the mother figures in our lives who support us, and we saw that spirit reflected in celebrations across our communities 💐

Residents came together to enjoy good company and spend time with one another. From youth in Eagle Crest’s afterschool program making their own Mother’s Day cards to Mother’s Day luncheons with games and activities at Chester Apartments and Raleigh Annex Apartments, each gathering brought its own special touch.

Residents at Easton Senior combined Mother’s Day and Cinco de Mayo for a taco-filled celebration, while Mallard Run residents came together for a tea party with treats, conversation, and games.

We love seeing the different ways our communities come together to recognize the people who mean so much to them ❤️ We hope everyone who celebrated had a Mother’s Day that felt just as special.

📚✨ Bringing stories to life at Villages of Westhaven! ✨📚

The kids at Villages of Westhaven in Chicago, IL had the chance to pick out their very own books at a FREE Book Fair. Sparking imagination, creativity, and a love for reading. A special shoutout to Social Service Coordinator Kayla for helping make this event a success and creating a meaningful experience for the children 💙

A huge thank you to for making this day possible and helping put books into the hands of young readers! Because every child deserves a story of their own.

⛳️ Happy National Golf Day!

At Better Tomorrows, we’re gearing up for year TWO of our Golf Program—creating opportunities for youth to build confidence, learn new skills, and step onto the course with purpose.

As leaders from across the golf and club industry gather in Washington, D.C. this May 4–6, we’re proud to be part of a movement that’s growing the game and expanding access for all. Golf is more than a game—it’s a pathway to connection, growth, and opportunity. And we’re just getting started. 💚
