Advocating for Change: Joseph's House on Capitol Hill

The National Conference on Ending Homelessness is one of the largest annual conferences in the United States focused on preventing and ending homelessness. It is organized by the National Alliance to End Homelessness and brings together professionals and advocates from across the country to share research, policy updates, and practical strategies. As part of the conference, Capitol Hill Day serves as the advocacy component of the National Conference on Ending Homelessness. Rather than attending educational sessions, participants spend the day meeting with members of Congress and their staff to advocate for federal policies and funding related to homelessness and affordable housing. Joseph's House Executive Director, Colandra, went with a cohort of New Jersey advocates to meet with our state congressional offices to speak about important policies and funding needs that affect homelessness. She was able to key in on critical issues affecting unsheltered individuals across the country, state, and county by referencing trends we see at Joseph's House every day.
