Summer is in full swing, with the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity creating dangerous situations where heat illnesses — such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke — are possible.

Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances!

If you work or spend time outside, take extra precautions. If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or late evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, take plenty of breaks, and drink plenty of water. Be sure to check on those more susceptible to the effects of heat illnesses, like the elderly, outdoor workers, and those without air conditioning.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency — call 9-1-1 immediately, and move anyone overcome by heat to a cool, shaded location!
