Each year, New Jersey American Water flushes the pipes in its water distribution system. This is an essential part of our system maintenance program, which helps us to continue to provide you with high-quality water service. Flushing will begin in Camden during the week of August 31st and continue until September 27th.

The following road closure will be in place along Haddon Avenue during the week of August 31:

Mt. Vernon Street to Kaighn Avenue – Closed (active work zone)

Newton Avenue, Walnut Street, and Chestnut Street intersections – Temporary lane restrictions (traffic signal utility work)

Please note:

Street parking will NOT be permitted on both sides of Haddon Avenue from Pine Street to Kaighn Avenue. Residents, please advise visitors of the parking restrictions. Any violators will be towed at the owner's expense. Temporary parking is available in designated lots near the intersections of Haddon Avenue & Walnut Street and Haddon Avenue & Kaighn Avenue.

Haddon Avenue will reopen on Friday, September 4th, beginning at 5:00 PM. All closures and detours will resume at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, September 8th. No construction is scheduled on Monday, September 7th (Labor Day). Local access for residents, businesses, emergency services, and deliveries will be maintained where feasible. Detour signage will be in place to guide motorists around active work zones.

Property Damage from Flooding:

Residents and business owners who experienced flood damage resulting from the July 6th storm are encouraged to contact their private insurance providers to begin their claim. For additional assistance or for those uninsured, please get in touch with the City of Camden (EOC) hotline at 856-757-7132 or 856-757-7139 to begin the Property Damage Assessment (PDA) process.

Sidewalks:

For your safety, please avoid newly poured sidewalks and curbs until the concrete has fully dried. Helping keep wet concrete undisturbed allows crews to finish the work properly and avoid delays.

Trash and Recycling Information:

Please place trash and recycling out each evening for early morning pickup. If your usual location is temporarily blocked due to active construction, please place items at the nearest safe curbside location, including the opposite side of the street if necessary. Keep cans and bags out of sidewalk areas and pedestrian pathways.

Dust Control:

A water truck will make two passes through the construction area each day to help reduce dust and keep conditions more manageable for nearby residents and businesses. Although we have multiple crews actively working along the corridor on utility, drainage, curb, and sidewalk improvements, we remain committed to minimizing the day-to-day impacts of this work as much as possible.
