Special Olympics transforms lives through the joy of sport, every day, everywhere. It is the world’s largest sports organization with nearly 5 million athletes in more than 170 countries. Special Olympics is also a global social movement. With initiatives to activate youth, engage kids and adults with intellectual disabilities, build communities and improve the health of their athletes - they are changing the game for people young and old and asking you to be a part of it all.

For more than 50 years, Special Olympics has been spreading the message: people with intellectual disabilities can – and will – succeed when given the chance.

With training and competitions in 12 Olympic-style sports, SOMO athletes push hard and play harder. They strive to beat their personal bests, defying the odds again and again. From the local ballfields to the shining stage of the World Games, from swimming to skiing, their athletes showcase the talents and triumphs of people with intellectual disabilities.

A big thank you to our staff for attending and supporting the 2026 SOMO Torch Run.

Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) has challenged our nation to confront and remove barriers to justice for all victims of crime. It is a time to recognize the progress of the victims’ rights movement and reflect on how far we have come—while acknowledging the work still ahead.

This year, Crossroads Correctional Center was honored to welcome Mothers in Charge and Children of Homicide Victims as our guest speakers for NCVRW. Their voices, strength, and lived experiences remind us of the lasting impact crime has on families and communities.

Rosilyn founded the Kansas City chapter of Mothers in Charge in 2014, after losing her son Antonio PeeWee Thompson, 26 years old, to homicide in 2011. Since then she has dedicated herself to other families experiencing the same trauma. As director of programs, Rosilyn ensures that KC MIC’s programs and services meet the immediate (and evolving) needs of these families. She is on call 24/7 to provide trauma-informed crisis intervention to families at homicide scenes; she also serves as the liaison between family and police, and provides immediate and longer-term support for families in the aftermath of a homicide. She serves as the primary media contact for the organization.
