Sign of our times: Public space usurped by adjacent property owner causes City of Cameron to require pedestrians to "walk in the street," even when there is unimproved right of way (an easement). At least when you get hit, the car should be going no faster than 20 in the "School Zone," so long as it is from 7:30AM to 4:30PM.
The City of Cameron recently tabled consideration of a Safe Routes to School program after the consultants recommended one of two streets that were quite usable. The City and Cameron ISD apparently did not feel the cost was right when people could just "walk in the street."
We have yet been unable to determine which of the Cameron City ordinances enable this. If we have missed something in Federal or State law that allows property owners to claim adjacent unimproved right of way in a community of roughly 5,500 folks, let us know in the comments below.
