The committee selected to work on the Data Center Design Standards held it’s initial meeting today. The committee decided to meet two (2) times a month until a completed draft document can be finalized. Once the draft document is finalized a “Town Hall” meeting will be held to get the citizen’s input. The committee also agreed to bring in subject matter experts to address certain issues as they work through the process. The committee is still requesting any citizen with input that may be of value to the committee to submit those thoughts through the [email protected] email address.

The committee to help establish the Data Center Design Standards consists of the following citizens: Judy Burnett, Mitch Bernier, and Lanair Worsham, Jr.

Last evening the Mitchell County Board of Commissioners voted to place a moratorium on Data Centers until a set of designs standards can be established and approved or 180 days whichever comes first.

They also approved a citizen involved committee to be established to participate in the design standards. Three citizens will be selected to serve on the committee. To be considered for selection the following has to be followed:

• To be considered for the committee the person will have to be a Mitchell County Resident, own property in Mitchell County, and submit an email to the [email protected] titled “Desire to Serve on Data Center Design Standard Committee”. This email should express the person’s reason for wanting to serve on the committee and how they can be reasonable, constructive, and objective. The body of the email should be 100 words or less.
• The period to submit the email to serve will be open for 10 days. The last email accepted to serve would be at 5:00 PM on July 24th, 2026.
• A review of applicant will be done blindly with no names present on the emails.
• The selections will be notified by July 31st, 2026.
• First meeting will take place on August 5th, 2026, and we will meet every two weeks until a final draft is completed.

Also, citizens are welcome to send any constructive and objective comments that could be helpful to establish the design standards to [email protected]
