The 101st RTI recently had the honor of presenting an engraved NCO sword, and the Legion of Merit to MSG William Munsell. The NCO sword is a symbol of the power, strength, and fidelity of the Noncommissioned Officer. The Legion of Merit is awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct, and the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The Legion of Merit is typically awarded to general officers and colonels occupying senior command or very senior staff positions in their respective services. It may also be awarded to officers of lesser rank, senior warrant officers, and to very senior enlisted personnel (typically in the rank of command sergeant major and Sergeant Major of the Army,) but these instances are less frequent, and typically by exception, adding even more significance to MSG Munsell's astounding career and the lasting legacy he will leave at the 101st RTI and across the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
