STAGE I FIRE RESTRICTIONS

Copper Canyon Fire & Medical Fire District will enact Stage I Fire Restrictions beginning at 8:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in coordination with Yavapai County and the United States Forest Service (USFS).

Under Stage I Fire Restrictions:

Campfires: Only allowed in official, developed campgrounds. No fires are allowed in the backcountry or “dispersed” camping sites.

Smoking: Only allowed indoors, inside a vehicle, or in a cleared area with a minimum 3-foot dirt circle.

Fireworks: Completely banned.

Engines: Any motorized equipment (chainsaws, ATVs, etc.) must have a properly installed and working spark arrestor.

ALLOWED:

Devices fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG (like propane stoves or lanterns) that have a simple on/off switch are still allowed.

Fires are permitted only in a specific locations: backyard fire pits and official campfire rings or grills at designated Forest Service campgrounds. All areas around the fire must be cleared of any flammable debris.

These restrictions are in place due to increasing fire danger and dry conditions throughout the area. Thank you for helping keep our communities fire safe this summer!

Our new hires have been putting in the work and recently put their training to the test during mayday drills. These critical scenarios are designed to prepare firefighters to respond quickly and effectively when a firefighter becomes lost, trapped, disoriented, or injured on the fireground.
Throughout the training, recruits practiced communication, situational awareness, rapid intervention techniques, and firefighter rescue operations in high-stress environments. These hands-on drills are an important part of building the confidence, teamwork, and decision-making skills needed to operate safely and effectively during emergency incidents.
Training like this helps ensure our future firefighters are prepared for the challenges of the job while reinforcing our commitment that everyone goes home safe.

Yesterday, May 11, 2026, at approximately 4:00 PM, Copper Canyon Fire & Medical District responded to reports of a brush fire along West State Route 260 near Mile Marker 215. Fire crews acted quickly to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

This marks the second fire in two days and serves as an important reminder that dry conditions continue across our area. We urge everyone to practice wildland fire safety to help prevent accidental fires.

Wildland safety tips:
- Properly dispose of ci******es
- Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass
- Make sure trailer chains are not dragging
- Never leave campfires unattended and fully extinguish them
- Keep equipment and vehicles maintained to prevent sparks

Thank you to our crews for their rapid response and continued dedication to keeping our community safe.

Last night, Copper Canyon Fire & Medical District crews responded to a wildfire in the area of West Finnie Flat Road and Homestead Parkway. Firefighters made an aggressive initial attack, successfully limiting the fire to just under 4 acres.

Crews, working alongside Arizona State Fire personnel, are on scene conducting mop-up operations and extinguishing remaining hotspots. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

This serves as a great reminder to practice wildland fire safety:
- Properly extinguish ci******es and campfires
-Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass
- Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks
- Never leave outdoor flames unattended

This incident highlights the effectiveness of rapid response and strong interagency cooperation in protecting lives, property, and our community.
