Sheriff Nathan and some Paladin participants volunteered to clear a lot in Leakey today. This lot will be used for the Sheriff’s office substation across from the Leakey school. Having the substation across from the school will provide additional security for students who attend the school and better access to deputies for the community. The volunteer work by the Sheriff and Paladin members will save the county $6,000 to $8,000 in site preparation costs. The Sheriff hopes this volunteer effort will support the process of obtaining a substation building for the location. There’s more work to be done and other volunteers have already committed to help with this project. Stay tuned for further updates.

Last weekend, Sheriff Johnson had the privilege of speaking to a group of Boy Scouts at the Wilkerson Ranch north of Leakey. What made this event even more special is that one of the dads who was sponsoring the outing was a former participant in youth activities with Sheriff Johnson almost 30 years ago. It’s wonderful to see past participants paying it forward with the next generation!

Paladin continues it’s annual bike give away with 4 recipients. These recipients were nominated by members of our local community. Each one seemed excited to try out their new wheels and they hope to participate in the “ride your bike to school day” in October. We want to say thank you to the staff at Hevenor Lumber in their help with assembling the bikes and those in the community who helped to nominate this year’s recipients.

We had a visitor to our community who wanted to know what it was like to be a Texas cowboy. Paladin and Gypsy, the rescue horse, gave him a taste of Texas and he was delighted. Sheriff Johnson sent him home with a cowboy hat so he could relive his memories. Sheriff Nathan Johnson

Paladin Community Services and Hevenor Hardware were able to hand out some Christmas cheer to three local kids!! Three young men were nominated by the community and were gifted a bike to zip around the town and enjoy the sights. This is the second year we have been able to do this program thanks to the generous donations by folks in the community.
