Fire Associates is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Laddie, our very first Therapy Dog.

Laddie has been a presence on many of our Fire responses around the County, and has been the cause of many smiles on the face of many fire fighters.

Laddie will be greatly missed.

Tonight a team of Fire Associates volunteers responded to a request from San Jose Fire to provide Rehab at a 2nd alarm fire on Stowe Ave on San Jose’s East Side.

Newly installed FASCV President, Nat Crema, responded with Fire Support Unit 3 and was met on scene by FASCV members Chris Welch and Liz Moniz.

This response marks the return to service of Fire Associate’s Rehab units.

It is with great sadness today we announce the passing of one of our Founders, Len Williams.

As one of our founding members, Len had a vision of a community of members coming together to serve the brave firefighters of Santa Clara County. Today, more than fifty years later, that vision is still going strong.

Len was a friend to everyone.

We will miss you Len

We're heartbroken to report today that Don Gilbert, our first ever "Life Member", passed away yesterday after spending the last few months in hospice care. Fire Associates members visited him in Hospice just last week.

For many years Don was Fleet Manager for us here at Fire Associates, and his efforts in building and configuring our Fire Support Units led to his being presented with a Lifetime Membership. Don was involved in building out all three of our current Fire Support Units, and many before them.

Apart from his remarkable work with Fire Associates, Don spent his career working as the Supervisor for County Roads, and even spent a period as a volunteer firefighter with Santa Clara County in his younger days.

Don has not been seen on the fireground for the last couple of years, but since 2000 has been on 570 fire calls with Fire Associates... and hundreds more before then.

Don was 88 years old.

He will be missed. RIP Don.

A little more about the building destroyed at San Jose's History Park on Sunday...

The Historic Nelson-Deluz House built in 1905 on S 11th St. and Williams. The building was home to the Hellenic Heritage Institute. A neo-classic bungalow, it was destroyed earlier this week at History Park in San Jose.

It featured cultural exhibits and displays, paintings and portraits, photography, textiles and folk costumes, historical artifacts and home furnishings, and religious pieces. The interior was modeled after a traditional Greek nobleman's home.

The house was moved to the Museum in 1987 as the result of a bequest from Kristena Nelson DeLuz.

The Restoration:
When the house was moved to History Park in 1987, it was sited and placed on a foundation. The restoration plan for the building was based on research and careful examination of the structure. With few exceptions, the historic structure and its decorative elements were retained. The house received a new roof; complete new electrical service; new heating, ventilating and air conditioning system; new floor coverings; and was repainted in the original color scheme. As in 1905, the trim, moldings and front door were repainted to simulate wood grain.

The original front door was stolen during the house move; the present door was reproduced from photographs.
