Kentucky State Police Post 5 Troopers Recognized at Annual Awards Ceremony

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 24, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) honored 84 troopers, detectives and officers who went above and beyond the call of service in 2025. The KSP annual Sworn Awards Ceremony highlighted those who are dedicated to protecting Kentucky’s 120 counties with a mission of creating a safer commonwealth for future generations.

In 2025, KSP responded to 532,600 calls for assistance, conducted thousands of wellness checks during dangerous weather conditions, protected children from online predators, secured justice for victims, and assisted local law enforcement agencies as needed to promote safety throughout the commonwealth.

Recipients from the Post 5 area include:

•Detective Steven Goodale was named the 2025 Post 5 Detective of the Year. Detective Goodale is a 22-year veteran of the agency.

•Trooper Matthew Sharp was named the 2025 Post 5 Trooper of the Year. Trooper Sharp is a 2-year veteran of the agency.

Today was a bittersweet day on Trooper Island Camp, Inc.. It was the last day, and now we are all home with our families. However, not before we had a week full of fun! Today, metals were awarded to the top 3 of each camp activity: Fishing, Archery, Rec, Kayaking and Swimming. In addition to those metals, “Camper of the Week” and the “Trooper Award” were given to two campers who earned them 10 times over! Till next year Trooper Island!

P.S. there may be a video I created at Trooper Island Camp coming out next week, so stay on the lookout for that!

Day 4 has ended and was a perfect day! Azaylee was our girl camper “leader of the day”. We concluded the night with our “Blue Light Ceremony” in honor of our fallen Troopers.

Camper awards will be given out tomorrow so stay tuned!

Day 3 was another success! Catfish caught, bullseyes made, prayers said and water swam! Can’t wait for what tomorrow has in store!
