The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office is issuing this statement regarding former Chief Deputy Brian Pickard.
In March 2025, Brian Pickard was placed on administrative leave after Sheriff Benningfield identified discrepancies in an invoice addressed to the department. Following a prompt and thorough investigation, Pickard was suspended and the case was referred to the Kentucky State Police. Referring to an outside agency the department was assuring transparency of the investigation. Brian Pickard is no longer employed by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office.
We are cooperating fully with the Kentucky State Police and other federal agencies as the investigation continues. Our office remains committed to transparency, fiscal integrity, and serving the community with the highest level of professionalism.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of individuals attempting to scam people in our community. These individuals are calling and pretending to be law-enforcement they will attempt to tell the citizens that they either have a warrant or they have missed jury duty. They will then ask for money to pay the fines. Please do not fall victim to these scammers if you receive a phone call like this and are concerned that you may have a fine, call your local authorities to verify. As always never give out personal information or banking information over the phone or online. Stay safe Taylor County.

Senior Deputy Robby VanCleave and Chief Deputy Josh Patrick participated in the Taylor regional Hospital health fair on Saturday. They passed out candy to the kiddos and pamphlets on seatbelt safety and child restraint / booster seat information. They got to have a lot of fun meeting people from the community and working with other agencies as well as the staff of TRH.
