The Campo Fire Department would like to say thank you to all of the local, county, state, and federal agencies that came together to help protect Campo during the fire on Sunday. When things got tough, departments and crews from all over stepped up without hesitation, and we are incredibly grateful for the support.

We also want to thank the state resources, Forest Service crews, and contracted fire agencies that have stayed in the area throughout the week taking fire calls and working the fire perimeter. Your help has given our Baca County departments a much needed break after several long days on the fire line.

These fires remind us what can happen when people and agencies work together for one common goal…. protecting our communities. Thank you to everyone who has helped in any way. We truly appreciate it.

Sharpe Fire update, 05/19/2026 11:30am:
Size: 16,240 acres burned in Colorado (acreage in Colorado is being counted separate from acreage burned in Oklahoma)
Containment: 0%
Personnel: 100
Location: South of Springfield, CO

The Sharpe fire. located in Baca County south of Springfield, CO, remains 16,240 acres this morning with 0% containment. Last night, the Pueblo Interagency Zone Type 3 Team assumed command of the Sharpe Fire to help give some relief to the local responders who have been fighting this fire since Sunday. The team will be providing logistical and overhead support to firefighters continuing to work to contain this fire. Today, fire crews will be conducting mop up operations to further strengthen firelines that were put in by local fire crews when this fire came across the border from Oklahoma to Colorado. Weather today is expected to be windy but cooler with higher humidity which will help the firefighting efforts.

Update/clarification: The Pueblo Interagency Zone Type 3 Team will be managing only the area of the Sharpe fire that is burning in Colorado. This includes firefighting activities, counting of acreage (in Colorado only) and containment.

Fire Preparedness Notice !!!

We are asking all Baca County residents and surrounding areas we assist to stay aware and be prepared. With the drought conditions we are facing, the fire danger is extremely serious right now.

Please pay attention to emergency alerts and be ready to act if conditions change.

Farmers and ranchers ! we need your help.
If you have equipment that could help cut fire breaks, please let Baca County Dispatch know what equipment you have available and where it is located.

PLEASE TURN ON SOLAR AND WINDMILL STOCK TANKS!
We may need water sources to draft from when tenders are not immediately available.

Livestock owners: have a plan and be prepared to move animals out of danger if needed.

We all live here, and we all need to work together to protect our communities, homes, land, and livestock.

BEING PREPARED CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
