Virginia’s spring fire season is here, officially Feb. 15 – April 30. During that time, the statewide burn law is in effect, which prohibits outdoor fires between midnight and 4 p.m. 🔥🚫

Don't be fooled by the snow! Most of Virginia is in a drought caused by months of below-average rainfall. Already this year, DOF has responded to 80 wildfires that have burned nearly 800 acres.

The best ways you can prevent wildfires:
🔥 Wait until after the fire season to burn yard debris
🔥 If you must burn, avoid windy days
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended
🔥 Know the state burn law and local restrictions

✨60th Anniversary Celebration✨

Please join us in commemorating 60 years of dedicated service to our community!

REST IN PEACE: Today marks 12 years since the tragic loss of our 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots. 💔 The group was killed when they were overrun by a wildfire in a canyon near Yarnell.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the nine brave Charleston firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during the tragic Super Sofa Store fire on June 18, 2007. Their courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten.

As we reflect on this solemn anniversary, may we carry forward their legacy with pride and gratitude, always remembering the cost of service and the strength of our fire service family. Let us never forget their names, their heroism, and the profound impact they left on our community.❤️

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the Virginia State Police family.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the Virginia State Police family.

It is with profound sadness that the Virginia State Police announces the passing of retired Master Trooper Jay Alderman.

Retired Master Trooper Alderman, who had been separated from the Department on Long-Term Disability (non work-related), passed away following a courageous battle with significant medical issues, including cancer in recent years.

Jay began his distinguished career with the VSP on April 10, 2002, as a member of the 103rd Basic Session. He was initially assigned to Division 7, Area 10, before transferring to Division 4, Area 25, where he served with dedication until the conclusion of his career.

At the time of his passing, Jay was 46 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife and two children.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the honor of serving alongside him. Retired Master Trooper Alderman will be remembered for his integrity, commitment to service, and the lasting impact he made over his 22 years with the Virginia State Police.
