As residents of the Town of North Canaan eagerly wait for the dedication and unveiling of the newly minted Bunny McGuire Park, located right in the heart of town, donations and grants continue to fund the remarkable improvements that have been slated for the property.
In a small gathering at Town Hall on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, Eversource announced that The Canaan Foundation was selected to be the recipient of a $2,500 grant, made possible by the Eversource Energy Foundation. The Canaan Foundation applied for the grant, which will be used to upgrade all of the lighting at the Bunny McGuire Park.
“Eversource is committed to supporting organizations and initiatives that make a positive difference in the communities we serve. We are pleased to support the efforts to improve the community pavilion lighting at the Bunny McGuire Park in North Canaan, and are hopeful that it will be a place for community members to gather for years to come,” said Tim Waldron, Community Relations and Economic Development Specialist at Eversource Energy.
In response to the grant, Mary Perotti, President of The Canaan Foundation, said, “We are very appreciative of the generosity and financial assistance that has been offered to us by Eversource. In turn, this grant will now allow The Canaan Foundation to offer its support to the newly renovated and soon to be dedicated, Bunny McGuire Park; which has now become such a beautiful centerpiece of our town.”
Brian M. Ohler, First Selectman of North Canaan, followed with his own gratitude, saying, “The Bunny McGuire Park is a very special place, with so much to offer its guests. With this gift from Eversource, the park can now receive a lighting upgrade that has been so desperately needed. Our friends at The Canaan Foundation remain steadfast in their mission, being dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the Town of North Canaan."
Donations and grants have remained the primary financial basis for the upgrades and improvements that have taken place at the Bunny McGuire Park, which is a true testament to the unwavering support that has been shown and offered since the park’s name and dedication was announced.
A formal ribbon-cutting and celebration will take place at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, June 7th, 2025. All are welcome to attend the festivities. Please save the date!
