We are comprised of six full time officers, one part time officer, and one administrative assistant.

⚠️ A portion of Route 118 near the Town green will be closed from 11:30am - 11:30pm for a car show and block party. A detour has been established for traffic. Please use caution in the area as heavy pedestrian traffic is expected. ⚠️

Mr. Braley was possibly spotted in Lebanon, near the CCBA. We are asking rail trail users to please report any sightings. Reminder. He was wearing jeans, a white T-shirt, flannel long sleeve and a blue baseball hat.

***UPDATE***

The Canaan Police Department was assisted by members of the Enfield Police Department, Lebanon Police Department, Canaan Fire and Rescue Department, and the Enfield Fire Department in our search for Mr. Braley. We conducted searches for miles over a five-hour period by vehicle, foot, and drone. Mr. Braley was never located. Witnesses said Braley was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans when they saw him walking on South Road around 2:00 pm on August 28th. Braley walks with a significant limp and has difficulty communicating verbally, and he has additional medical needs that increase concern.

The Canaan Police Department is searching for a missing vulnerable adult. Christopher Braley was last seen at the Pleasant Valley Store, walking west toward South Road. He was last seen wearing a red plaid shirt and jeans. Christopher is 5'07", 130 lbs., and was wearing a blue Bass Pro Shops hat. Christopher may be walking to Claremont.

There will be a 5K road race tomorrow that will take place on Canaan Street and Back Bay Road, between 9:00am - 10:00am.

Officers will make every effort to maintain an open lane of travel. Please use alternate routes if possible.

Use caution if you travel through the area and please watch for runners and pedestrians.

The annual Canaan Old Home Day parade on Saturday, August 1st, will begin at 9:30am.

Expect traffic delays on Route 4 and Route 118. Please seek alternate routes and adjust your travel times.

Please drive slowly and watch for pedestrians.

The Canaan Police Department proudly announces the promotion of Detective Amanda Lewis to Sergeant, recognizing her performance throughout the evaluation and selection process.

Sergeant Lewis began her law enforcement career in 2013 and joined the Canaan Police Department in 2023. She has led criminal investigations, trained new officers, and helped strengthen departmental operations.

Before joining Canaan, Sergeant Lewis served with the Enfield and Hanover Police Departments, gaining extensive patrol, investigative, field training, and community policing experience. She completed advanced law enforcement training, including the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Institute, First Line Supervision, Interview and Interrogation, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and Field Training Officer instruction.

Sergeant Lewis consistently demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and strong leadership. Her dedication to the community and her colleagues distinguishes her as an exceptional leader.

In her new role as Sergeant, Lewis will oversee patrol operations, supervise and mentor officers, and ensure the highest standards of professionalism and service within the department. She will be responsible for leading investigations, managing critical incidents, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Sergeant Lewis will also serve as a key liaison between the department and the community, reinforcing the department’s mission to protect and serve with integrity. We congratulate Sergeant Amanda Lewis on her well-earned promotion.

Raising the Bar: Officer Leach Graduates from the 202nd New Hampshire Full-Time Police Academy, Earns Academic Scholarship.

We are thrilled to announce that Officer Jeffrey Leach has graduated from the New Hampshire Full-Time Police Academy! CPD Officers and Selectboard Chairman, Stephen Freese, and friends and family were in attendance to support Officer Leach’s accomplishments.

Over the past nine months, Officer Leach completed rigorous academic, physical, and practical training, laying a strong foundation for his law enforcement career and preparing him to serve the Canaan Community with excellence.

Officer Leach not only earned his full-time certification but was also chosen as the class recipient of the Community College System of New Hampshire’s System Scholarship. This prestigious honor awards him free tuition for 15 college credits at any college within the system, in addition to the 19 credits he earned during his academy training.

His accomplishment is a testament to his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to learning and service. We are proud to welcome Officer Leach to our department and look forward to all he will contribute to our community. We are confident that Officer Leach is a great addition to our agency and will be a true asset to the Town of Canaan for years to come.

Congratulations to Chief Drew Lazarus for his promotion to Battalion Chief with the Charlotte, NC, Fire Department. He served the Canaan Fire and Police Departments well before his journey south.
