It may be just a little progress, but we still count it as progress!

About a quarter of our windows got cleaned a few weeks ago, some of you noticed us outside working! (Which we love seeing everyone and answering everyone’s questions, or hearing stories.)

Today, we got about a quarter of our garden done as well! (Along with some well needed lawn maintenance.) It’s been a plan of ours to get the garden back to some glory! It’ll also bring some amazing colors in the next few weeks, which we’re so excited to see. 🌼

Boy has it been one heck of a year! But we’ve made it through. With all the updates currently being done with the house and all the exciting things in our personal lives, we haven’t been able to keep the page updated as we’d like. We sincerely apologize, but hope that this find will make up for it a tiny bit!

The Saturday Evening Post: (April 1st, 1939)

My wonderful fiance was digging around a few boxes in our house and found these! Beech-Nut was original to our town of Canajohaire, responsible for a slew of products like their gum illustrated here. We plan on hanging these up in the house to remember our amazing Beech-Nut history!

We’ve had a lot of questions about the marble in our bathrooms/the bathrooms themselves! So I wanted to gloss them over and answer any questions that I saw. There’s an interesting back story to this amazing marble as well!

(First and second picture):
This is in fact William Morris wallpaper! This specific wallpaper was imported from England. The last owner took pride in putting up all of the wallpapers you see throughout the house.

(Second picture):
It’s a bit blurry as it is part of the pictures from the listing online (I want to properly clean before posting) it is one of the newer rooms. Previous owner let us know that there was a leak, hence why it had to be torn out and redone.

Now, to the marble!!

The previous owner (4th owner) took a lot of his time and energy fixing the house back up, after the 3rd owner painted and destroyed a lot of the house! During his stay here, he had found marble slabs down in the basement. Overtime, he had no idea what to do with them and got the idea to do marble sinks! He also has marble in the shower (3rd photo) and made a marble cutting board, which he kindly left for us! The bowls in the sink are also made from the same marble he had found in the basement.

4/19/24-

We made probably one of our biggest goals finally come true, finally closing on this beautiful house. We cannot wait for what the future holds; all the ups, downs, laughs, and cries, we’re so ready for it!

It was left in such a beautiful condition for being built in 1859, we will be the 5th owners of this historic 164 year old house! All original wood work, with much more hiding under white and green paint that we will hopefully uncover soon. The house has beautiful glass stained, 19th century Belcher Transom windows in our front entry way along with the original wood work on all of the doors throughout the house, including the front. We’ve been informed as well that the yellow on the porch is the original color! We plan on painting the whole house that color in the future! These are just some of the many amazing things that you’ll be able to see as we go along and post the progress of this amazing project!

As for what we’ll be doing with the house in the future; this will be a family house for (hopefully) generations to come. We both feel very connected to this place and fell in love with not only the house, but the town and community within! We can’t wait to meet the neighbors and if you happen to see us out and about, do not hesitate to say hi! 😁
