🚒🧗 Today, members of the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department had the opportunity to train alongside a few members of the Fort Plain Fire Department during a rope rescue training.

We were also happy to have former member Brian Zubal II, who was visiting from North Carolina, stop by and spend some time with us during training. It was great to see him!

We’re happy to report that our “victim,” John Dummy, was successfully rescued! While the rain cut our training day short and kept us from completing all of our planned scenarios, the time spent together was valuable and strengthened our teamwork.

To top it off, we were dispatched to an EMS call at the end of training, where our mutual aid partners from Fort Plain were there to assist. Training together and responding together is what mutual aid is all about.

As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors, let us take a moment to honor the brave men and women who have defended our nation’s freedoms and those who continue to serve our communities every day.

If you’re celebrating with fireworks, please use them responsibly, follow local laws, and keep safety your top priority. If you’re traveling, buckle up, never drive impaired, and look out for one another.

⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ⚠️

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Montgomery County until 4:30 PM.

This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny sized hail. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and move indoors to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building if severe weather approaches.

Please use caution while traveling and report any storm related emergencies through 911.

Stay weather aware and continue to monitor official sources for updates.

Tornado Watch Until Jun 18 3:00PM: A WATCH means in addition to damaging wind and/or large hail with t'storms, a tornado is also possible, but not imminent. Be weather aware and alert during the watch period.

A strong line of severe thunderstorms will cross through a large portion of the region this morning through this afternoon. A couple of tornadoes are possible along with a high likelihood of strong to damaging wind gusts. A tornado watch has been issued for portions of eastern New York and western New England through 3 PM this afternoon. Keep an eye to the sky, have multiple ways of receiving warnings, and secure outdoor objects.
