After careful evaluation over many years and consulting with professional arborists, we have made the difficult decision to remove our cottonwood tree.
Unfortunately, the tree has experienced significant decline over the past ten years and we’ve been advised that failure is imminent.
Given it’s size and location, the risk to people, buildings and activity around it is simply something we cannot responsibly ignore.
We know this tree has been a part of the landscape for generations and we plan to find a way to meaningfully memorialize it’s history.

Sometimes preserving history also means knowing how to protect the future.

Huge thank you to our trustees and volunteers who put in work this morning at our historic campus. We have seen so many changes and improvements toward the restoration and protection of Canal Wi******er’s history- and look forward to continuing the work of preserving the stories and memories of those who lived here before us. There is much more to come and we are grateful for every volunteer, community member and supporter who have seen the dream and are actively working to help us achieve it!
