📣 Grant award announcement:
Officially announced today in Buffalo at the 4th annual FAM Foundation Cookout, CFD was awarded funds to fully support two Cyanokits that will now ensure life saving medication is available for firefighters and civilians suffering from smoke inhalation. Each front line rig now carries a Cyanokit that is available to paramedics to administer in the prehospital setting.

This award and one to Erie County DHSES are the first under The Arno Act. Buffalo City Firefighter Jason Arno died in the line of duty on March 1, 2023 while fighting a multiple alarm fire in the city. This grant award reflects never forgetting and always remembering the ultimate sacrifice made by Jason Arno. His legacy of service and honor continues through this opportunity for CFD and our community.

We’re extremely grateful for the partnership established earlier this year with the FAM Foundation and look forward to seeing their continued leadership in supporting first responders.

If you loved our Touch a Truck event, this is bigger and better!!! Bring the family for a night of fun activities and get to know the first responders, local law enforcement, and community agencies who serve the residents of the City of Canandaigua!

Get up close and touch rescue vehicles, police cars, and DPW heavy equipment. Raffles, games, food trucks and many other activities are planned. This is a FREE event on Tuesday, August 4th from 3 to 7 p.m. at Kershaw Park.

📊 City of Canandaigua Fire Department – 2026 Mid-Year Response Summary 🚒

As we close out the first half of 2026, we'd like to share a brief snapshot of the work your City of Canandaigua Fire Department has been doing to keep our community safe.

January 1 – June 30, 2026
🚨 1,438 emergency incidents responded to

Our crews answered a wide variety of calls, including:
❤️ 706 EMS/Medical Emergencies (49%)
🚒 42 Fire Incidents
⚠️ 108 Hazardous Conditions
🛠️ 340 Public Service Calls
🚑 23 Technical Rescue Incidents

Some notable responses included:
• 134 breathing emergencies
• 61 chest pain calls
• 38 stroke responses
• 35 downed power line incidents
• 26 gas leak investigations
• 48 fire alarm activations
• 37 lift assists
• Multiple confined space standbys, water, elevator, and vehicle extrication rescues

Our firefighters also managed 462 overlapping incidents, meaning nearly one out of every three calls occurred while crews were already committed to another emergency. This highlights the dedication of our personnel and the importance of maintaining a ready and well-trained department.

We are proud to serve the residents, businesses, and visitors of the City and Town of Canandaigua 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Thank you to our mutual aid partners, Ontario County 911, our City and Town leadership, and, most importantly, our community for your continued support.

Update on our response to Camelot early this morning.
Around 12:30am CFD was dispatched to Camelot Ct. for an odor of natural gas. The incident was isolated to a block of 8 units and all parties were evacuated and gas secured. NYSEG and RGE responded to secure additional utilities while isolating the source. Cdga. EMS, CPD, and our partners at OC911 assisted for the duration. The scene is now under control and residents will soon occupy their homes again. There was a brief disruption in power that was needed while NYSEG conducted their investigation. Everyone’s patience and understanding the last few hours has been greatly appreciated.

Additional calls in our district were covered by the VAFD and Cheshire FD.
A formal press release will be issued.
