Rural New Yorkers die by su***de at disproportionately high rates, and too often the help they need is out of reach. I wrote this bipartisan bill to create a Rural Su***de Prevention Council that would identify those barriers and break them down. It passed unanimously in both chambers. I'm calling on Governor Hochul to sign it into law without delay. Watch my conversation with Capital Tonight's Susan Arbetter:

Su***de is as common as it is difficult to discuss. In 2023, according to the National Library of Medicine, someone in the U.S. died by su***de every 11 minutes.Su***de in rural communities is disproportionately higher than in urban areas for a variety of reasons. Congratulations to Heifer Haven Farms and Lawnhurst Farms, recognized by the Town of Geneva as 2026 Lake Friendly Farms! These dairy families are showing how productive farming and a healthy Seneca Lake watershed go hand in hand. I was glad to honor their achievement with a citation from my office. Thank you for your stewardship of New York's land and water.

Earlier this month, two NEDPA farm members were recognized as 2026 Lake Friendly Farms by the Town of Geneva for their commitment to protecting farmland, water quality, and the environment.

Located in the Seneca Lake watershed, both farms demonstrate how successful dairy operations can be strong stewards of the land. Their nutrient management programs make productive use of manure as a valuable resource, supporting the fertility and health of thousands of acres of feed crops. Investments in manure storage, injection equipment, in-ground pipelines, and other technologies help minimize nutrient runoff while reducing the need to transport manure by truck.

Congratulations to Heifer Haven Farms and Lawnhurst Farms on this well-deserved recognition. Thank you for demonstrating the important role dairy farms play in preserving New York’s agricultural landscape.

Thank you to everyone who rolled up a sleeve at my American Red Cross blood drives across my district this summer.

At the drive hosted by the American Legion in Canandaigua alone, the blood collected could help as many as 144 patients. Multiply it across the district, and you start to see how many lives we can save.

To every donor, host, and volunteer: thank you. You made a real difference.

When I learned that funding for New York's Child Advocacy Centers was at risk, I couldn't stay quiet. These centers are where children who've survived abuse find safety, healing, and a path forward. For many families, CACs are the difference between a child being heard and a child being failed.

This wasn't the work of any one person. It took advocates, survivors, providers, and law enforcement who refused to look away. I'm proud to have carried this fight and even prouder of the community that made sure the funding was fully restored.

As summer comes to a close, we said goodbye to our intern, Lindsey Letran. A Canandaigua City School District graduate, Lindsey is headed to the University of Pittsburgh to study public policy. She was a tremendous asset and a valued support to our team. We are grateful for her hard work and already miss her. Please join me in wishing Lindsey all the best!

If you’re interested in interning or learning more about the program, email our office at [email protected].

Papa Jack's Ice Cream in Victor is celebrating 25 sweet years! This family-owned favorite is a true Victor institution, and small businesses like it are the heart of our community. Congratulations to owners Nick and Kathy Cretekos. Here's to many more scoops!

Housed in the historic Hemlock School Building on Hemlock’s South Main Street, the Little Finger Lakes Center has become a true community hub and a welcoming space where the people and businesses of our Little Lakes Region come together to learn, connect, and have fun.

Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, this nonprofit is working to preserve the historic building and enrich life across our four little lakes: Hemlock, Canadice, Conesus, and Honeoye.

We celebrated the dedication of the Center's new sign, which is crowned by a beautiful canoe donated by Dave Curtis of Hemlock Canoe Works.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Victor Farmington Library for my Mobile Office Hours. We had thoughtful conversations about the issues affecting our neighbors right now, including insurance costs, the challenges facing our local farmers and agriculture, access to Medicaid, and questions about the green energy deal.

Great questions. Great conversation. This is exactly why I bring the office to you.

Thank you to Library Director Tim Niver and the library team for the space to spend meaningful time with residents.

Congratulations to Chris Barnard on a well-deserved appointment as W-FL BOCES District Superintendent.

Mammogram screenings are available to women 40 and older who have not been screened in the past year. Space is limited and appointments are recommended.
To schedule an appointment, call (585) 922-PINK or visit https://www.rochesterregional.org/services/womens-health/mobile-mammography

Most insurances cover the cost of an annual screening mammogram. If you do not have insurance or have questions regarding your insurance coverage for mammograms, please call (585) 922-PINK.

It is estimated that one in eight women will develop breast cancer during her
lifetime. Early detection saves lives. That’s why I have fought to expand insurance
coverage for screenings, improve access to mammograms for women with a
family history of breast cancer, and secure funding for early detection initiatives.
